Today on Totally Dog Training - a look at coping with disobedience - Disobedient dog: What to do when your dog won't obey you
Re: NEW: What to do when your dog disobeys Brilliant article, thank you! Just wish other dog owners didn't ask me "why didn't you call your dog?" sigh...... We have been recently working on training our new rescue (nearly six...) and revisiting the basics in recalls with Benson (our year old pup) coupled with adding extra interest on our walks, choosing quieter places has 1. Developed the start of a non existent recall for our new dog, and really improved the recall of our "disobedient" teenager ;D Upping the ante with rewards by using homemade liver cake might also have something to do with it... 8)
Re: NEW: What to do when your dog disobeys Thanks Pippa - food for thought. I have an issue with Tatze getting over excited on free runs with Gypsy. I think Gypsy is so very joyful at all the new experiences that she passes the 'vibe' on to Tatze. Either that, or maybe Tatze is anxious about Gypsy's freedom/safety and trying to stop her? Tatze then gets far too rough with Gypsy - far rougher than at home. I have started putting Tatze on a long line so that I can reel her in before she gets into this over-excited state. Hopefully she will see that Gypsy is fine or get used to Gypsy's levels of joy (!) and begin to play 'normally' with her as she does at home.
