Hi Everyone I am Chloe, owner of the lovely Ruby who is a black lab and almost 6 years old. I also have Bella, a chocolate and tan 2.5 year old working cocker spaniel. Ruby has numerous allergies to food and various types of mites so she keeps me on my toes, and my spaniel keeps me on my toes for different reasons !! I am keen to avoid handing the vet over endless amounts of money so always looking for health advice on forums first! I hate using chemicals on the girls so as much as possible try to go down the natural route. I recognise a few familiar names on here from another forum so don't feel quite such a newbie!
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Hi Chloe, and welcome to the forum! I have four spaniels, one of them can get quite itchy skin, which I suspect is some sort of food or dust mite allergy. If your little cocker is keeping you on your toes you can imagine what four spaniels, one of them a working cocker, are doing to me. ;D Hope you'll enjoy he forum.
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Hi Chloe, welcome to the forum! Look forward to seeing some photos of your lovely girls I have two cockers, and there are quite a few other spaniels here too, so hopefully you'll soon feel at home
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Hello Chloe , warm welcome from me, two year old black Lab Sam and rescue terrorist Millie ;D
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Hi and welcome We have just found out that our 7.5 month old lab has a wheat allergy. After lots of suggestions on here, I have successfully changed her food (all naturally made )
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Hi, I am new too. Lovely dogs, and a lovely big garden for them to run around in
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Lovely dogs, and wow what a garden! My last dog (choc Lab) had skin problems for most of his life. I fed him tuna and rice (just a small tin a day) which helped but didn't eradicate the problem. In very old age he decided he wouldn't eat rice so I fed the Symply brand of dried food - salmon and potato. At one point I was also bathing him in Malaseb, from the vet, but it's a real palaver as you have to let it dry for a while before rinsing. Ruby's coat looks in great condition in the photo.
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Thank you for the kind comments. The photo is not the most flattering of Ruby, but yes her coat is very shiny but about 2 years ago she was scratching so much that she had lots of bald areas from her chest to her tail and looked a real state I, and the dogs, feel very fortunate to have lots of space for them to run around. It means that we can practice a bit of gundog stuff and agility, so we are very lucky, but they still can't do without their walks!
Re: Newbie Essex girl! Him Chloe, your dogs are gorgeous,I have a yellow boy Dexter ,he's 18 months old and we live in Dubai x
