Hi Guys, Bruce has just reached six months and has started to act a bit odd! So basically i normally work from home but save for the odd day i have to go into london. But the last week and next week i've got to be in london everyday. We have a pet sitter who comes in x3 times a day for twenty minutes but for the past couple of days bruce has been turning his nose up at his kebble and started to attack the plaster board in the kitchen and when i say attack i mean he's pretty much gone down to the stud work. The kitchen has a radio in it and an assortment of things he's allowed to chew. We've tried him on kongs and he ignores them or gets the food out then ignores them I was in another room in the house about twenty minutes ago and heard him growling but there was nothing in the room when i got him for him to growl out and he hasn't growled at anything before The pet sitter has said he's drinking an unusual amount of water and his behaviour is unusual as he's previously been ok being left in the kitchen when he's been left before and he sleeps in the kitchen at night Any ideas
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Hi, might be worth a call to the vets just to check there isn't anything else going on. It could be that he's just hit the destructive age : but if it were me I would be checking to make sure he wasn't poorly or in pain.
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Off his food and drinking too much along with behaviour change would have me heading for the vet too. Hope its nothing, but if its being going on more than a day or two I would be getting him checked for sure.
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Vet visit sounds good... But another thought: going from company all day to just one hour split into 3 (I assume that's what the pet sitter does from your post) might not be straightforward. My boy is left while I work, but he has long walks each half day. And when I've spent a lot of full days with him over the summer, I have to get him back into the "work" routine gradually. If he has to spend unexpectedly long periods on his own, without me preparing him, he gets destructive. So it's not just about the time they spend alone, I think, it's what thy are used to coping with. Just opinion, based on my boy.
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Hi Julie, I did think that it could be he dosent like being left on his own, I normally go out during the day for an hour when i'm at home or i've put him in the kitchen for a 1-2 hours to while i crack on with some work. But i guess he knows i'm in the house even if he is in the kitchen At the moment he's laying down in the hallway whining. He's booked into the vets on sat morning but i think i'll have to move it forward
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Good luck at the vets Chris, I hope Bruce will be OK. Keep us posted x
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Hi Guys, So Bruce the destroyer went to the vets on saturday and i think we've worked out the change in his behaviour! Basically last saturday he managed to tip the bin over and riffle through it. I thought he hadnt eaten anything from the bin but it turns out he had. He passed a certain object on saturday morning which shall remain nameless, The vet thinks that it was slowly passing through his digestive system and was why he was drinking more and being off his food. She's recommended we crate train him(my wife was dead against this but the vet had a chat with her) and to try and split his exercise into two weeks if i'm going to be in london for the day and the pet sitter is coming in
Re: Now Started Being Super Destructive Naughty boy!! Good luck with the crate training. Glad he is ok
