has many of you know i have anxiety very bad....i never went out before getting jasper....took massive steps and getting out regular :)
my daughter who is a primary school teacher, as invited me to go along to blackpool zoo on monday, with 60 children.... there is one adult to 3 children ......... this is a massive step in my life, a goal i want to achieve, :)
this means leaving my little fella for a full day
i have arranged for my sons g/friend to come and play with him for an hour in the morning, My brother -in - law to take him out for half an hour in the afternoon :)
I leave him every tuesday for 5 hours, maximum i have ever left him ???
do you think it will be ok to leave him for a full day ?
he is not crated as the free run of the down stairs......should i just leave him in the kitchen for that one day? i don't want to come home to my settee chewed to pieces with the boredom :)

Lynne, he will be fine. He is used to being left alone for 5 hours, and you have two different sets of people coming in to let him out.

I think since you dont crate him you will just have to trust in him and leave him in his normal place for that time. If you shut him up in the kitchen he may get worried. Leave him lots of toys, and remove anything valuable you are worried he might chew (Poppy was known as The Cushion Monster for a while... ;) ).

I think this is just fantastic. What fabulous progress you have made in your own life - and you are a GREAT first-time dog owner. Well done you!!! :D

thank you karen......every tuesday when i leave him, i lose a cushion....lost another one yesterday :)
    i have 5 cushions left out of 10 :)
i normally only leave toys if he is supervised, ....i am scared of him choking, i am a big softie and worry about everything :(
i am going to fill his kong and freeze it....i understand what you mean about leaving him in the kitchen, it would be more daunting to him. :)
should be a fun filled day at the zoo :)

Leaving his kong is a good idea.

He'll be absolutely fine. You have company coming in for him which is the important thing.

Maybe you could leave him in his normal area but remove the cushions? Although I wouldn't want him to start on the sofa because there aren't any cushions. I've said it in other posts but baby gates work really well for us. Riley goes in the kitchen with the doors open so he can see the rest of the house but he's safe behind the gates. My skirting boards suffered slightly but he was never a big chewer.

Most importantly congratulations on this massive step for you! :D I hope you have a wonderful day!

You've really achieved a huge amount - I take my hat off to you. Your trip to the zoo will be another impressive step.

Jasper will be totally fine (though it's always a bit nerve wracking, stepping in the door after the first 'home alone for a day' experience). Breaking it up with a couple of visits is a great idea - it won't seem like a long day to him at all. :)

Lynne, you are far braver than me. The thought of managing 60 kids gives me the willies. I would have no idea. Do they respond well to clicker training....?

Give me a teenage Labrador any day ;D

wow lynne. You have achieved so much...hope you're proud of yourself! and Jasper is a lucky boy to have you as well....

and he will be fine, I leave my two home alone two days a week, they are left for 3.5 hours in the morning and 3.5 hours in the afternoon, with a visit from me at lunch time, and they are perfectly happy, just a tad lively when I get home those nights so gear yourself for your return! I get no sofa time for me for a good few hours those nights, its Woo Hoo Your Home Dog Parteeeeee Time...

    enjoy your trip :)

Oh Lynne , this is a massive achievement and please dont worry about Jasper , he will be absolutely fine I know . He seems to be a very well adjusted young lad and will cope without his Mummy for a day, most likely just sleep, most do . Have a wonderful time and well done to you ;D

    Well done Lynne!
What a big step for you - you should feel justly proud of yourself.
And don't worry if you feel a little anxious, you wouldn't be normal if you didn't ;D
I hope you have a lovely day. It sounds that you have everything well organised.
Good move on the Kongs - are you filling a couple and freezing them? Jasper will love that.

    Have fun!
    :)
