Took Lady to the vet this morning for some Drontal and Advocate and popped her on the scales. 31kg!!!!!! Her right weight is 27kg so that's seriously over.

Please shoot me now as I'm obviously not a good guardian of the weight.

That's 2kg heavier than Charlie - and he is a strapping great show line boy! Are you sure the vets are maintaining the scales properly? We go to 3 different vets (for different things) and Charlie never weighs the same on the different scales...

Heh, Julie, sounds like the same kind of thing I say about my own bathroom scales!

I'm sure it's only a blip in your normal good diet management. Best advice is to weigh Lady's food and allow for any treats from her daily ration, and take her for a regular weigh at the vets. If you're using the same scales it should help to monitor her weight even if the scales are a bit out. A quick check for weight is whether she has a waist and whether you can feel her ribs - they should be well covered so they are felt but not seen if that makes sense....... According to my vet if you dog has a waist there isn't too much wrong with their weight. Weird I know but I actually weigh Juno more often than myself. Want to make sure she stays lean where as I've obviously given up on svelte body for myself ;D

Is it wrong that I love a man that doesn't notice the difference in weight of his Lady? ;)

David, the best thing you can do is to cut her meals by about 30% for a week or so. The weight will soon drop down.

You'll just have to steel yourself against the sad, sad doggie eyes... ;)

4kgs without you noticing? I would definitely be checking the scales.

Hopefully a short diet will have the SBD back to fighting weight :)

I'm going to double check on the bathroom scales this morning, but she's on the "Karen" diet of cutting back 30% from yesterday evening. Labs can give one a VERY hard stare! ;D

David could you pop Lady back to the vets for a re-weigh just to make sure it's not the scales before you do anything about her diet as 4kgs is a lot? Does she look and feel fatter?

When I took Hattie in for her operation to remove a lump she was weighed and according to their scales she had lost 1kg, I know she hasn't just by feeling her.

Whatever you will sort the young Lady out :) :) xx

This is the best thing to do David as hard as it will be for you and Lady. Are you feeding treats that are not included in her daily meal allowance? if so it might be better to deduct these too. You will sort it out David, Lady gets plenty of exercise so it should fall off pretty quickly. Keep us posted xx :)

Yes I've cut her back 30% as suggested, and cut out a dental stick because they are full of fat. She doesn't really get any other treats except when training and that's minimal and taken into account. I don't count raw veg in the amounts - hope that's right. Also I'm using up the remains of a bag of Burns Active that's high protein. I'll cut that with her summer diet of Burns Alert.

We're off for 10 days on Friday so I'll have to give the kennels the heads-up on amounts too.

Sounds good David but I wonder if Lady would need even less food if she's going into Kennels and not getting as much exercise. Might be worth checking :-\ x
