beattie has ‘reaching’ cough which is hard to describe o
on words. Apparently it’s something old Labrador’s tend to suffer with. It starts with a gurgle on her tummy and I can see it travelling up through her stomach. Definitely not the paralysis thing because appears randomly not after drinking water or eating. It doesn’t seem to worry her at all but sounds horrible to us. Bit like very loud belching. Has anyone found anything that makes this easier?

Hi @Thirteen definitely sounds unusual, and probably a bit uncomfortable for your dog. Any change in behaviour or health shouldn't really be considered "normal" for an older dog, instead, take Beattie to a vet for a quick checkup. :)

She’s had recent vet check up including an echo scan this week and all is fine. She goes to hydrotherapy and one of the other clients has a labrador of similar age who does the same thing. Her vet said nothing to worry about. It’s definitely a burping thing. She also had recent chiropractic treatment and the chiropractor recommended changing her food from county life greyhound to a senior food which I shall do once her present food is finished. I have found a senior brand that supports digestion and also contains glucosamine and chondroitin which I checked through with the vet which I shall use. Otherwise she’s bright eyed and responsive if deaf and not as sprightly as a puppy. The cardiologist said to check her in a year which I found encouraging since she will be 13 next month
