    Hi,

our pups just turned 1 last week and for a few weeks now, hes started growling at most other male dogs for absolutely no reason, he gets all excited to see them and goes for a sniff but once hes finished sniffing he starts growling, hes nearly been attacked a few times but we’ve thankfully managed to stop it from happening.
is this just an age thing? Or does this need to be sorted ASAP

    thank you

    Hi Annie,

Pippa has written about growling in this article - take a look and see if it helps.

He's trying to communicate something, so it's important to try and find out what he's trying to say, rather than discourage him. An experienced behaviorist who can observe him first hand might be best placed to help you here.

    Good luck!

When Toby was around that age and before neutering a lot of neutered dogs used to pick on him. It was when he started growling back and then got into a fight with both dogs on leads that I decided to have him neutered. We have had no problems since with him or other dogs. Not an argument for neutering at all as I realise there are many reasons not too but it solved this particular problem for us.
