We are a lab family, had to put our second lab down summer of 2019. Always had just one, but thought due to busy schedules getting two this time made sense so they could play, exercise and be together. Didn't do ANY research on the perils of getting siblings, and now understand why. Have read a lot of horror stories, and I guess we aren't as bad as most. Biggest problem is they are super competitive, always wrestling which can get pretty aggressive (no serious injuries...yet), and the female in particular is very high anxiety, separation issues, etc. We had them board and trained separately, kennel separately, but the reality is they spend most of their time together. We aren't getting rid of either of them, which I know from the threads seems to be the 'last straw' solution. We want this to work, and looking for helpful tips. Willing to do the hard work, spend the money, etc. Any tips/insight is appreciated.
Hi Kevin, Welcome to the forum I'm afraid I don't have any direct personal experience to share, but I wish you luck!
I think you need to spend more time training them separately. I realise you are time poor. But the dogs have to look for you for leadership rather than each other. And time allocated to each one is the way forward. I don't know the local limitations resulting from Covid but why not enrol in two separate dog training classes?
Hi. I’ve done the same thing as you. Think 2 pups will keep each other entertained . I’ve 2 12 week old boys. It was great at first but things are getting tricker. I constantly feel I’m doing everything wrong. I need a live in trainer to train me! . I have huge guilt because I keep thinking I should never have got them. A few weeks have passed for you. Are you finding it any easier?
