Blooming Oscar scared the life out of me twice now.... we live by a river with high banks, around 15 - 20 feet from the bank down to the water. We don't let Oscar go in the river at all (we've got some woods near us with dogs pond in and he goes swimming in there)....anyways, he LOVES chasing his frisby and every day we go along the river chasing the frisby.....

I throw it along the ground like a wheel and he chases it...one day last week the wind got hold of it and blew it down the river bank..straight into the water.

Off Oscar went chasing it, he jumped clean OFF the bank and disappeared from my view. I ran over and all I could see was his back legs on the lower bank water's edge with his head and fore legs under the water, He couldn't get a purchase to push himself off.
I threw myself down the bank and pushed him into the water so at least he could get his head up... this worked ok..he turned round and I oiked him up by his harness onto the bank and he scrambled up the top.
I was nearly crying... he thought it was great fun watching my trying to get up a near vertical 15 foot bank.

After I got up and pulled all the stinging nettle off me, I gave him a big hug. Thank god I thought. He was only under the water for about 10 seconds...but it seemed like hours.

    Well we both learn't a lesson then...until.....

We went over there on Saturday without a frisby...he ran up to the bit where he jumped off, and bloody done it again !! the same thing happened, he's under the water with his back legs on the bank, I threw myself off there, and pushed him into the water...again the same shenanigans with him getting up the bank and watching my trying to climb back up !!

I'm looking at him now asleep in his bed...thinking how lucky we both were.

Oh dear! Sounds like you had a nasty fright. It is hard to imagine how he managed to get stuck with his head under the water - but maybe a good place to stay clear of for a while.

That sounds really scary - but I couldn't help laugh at the fact that he did it again! I could imagine his cheery grin as you scrambled up the bank! ;)

Oscar sounds like a bundle of fun! I'd stay clear of the area for a while as my experience of labs highlights they like repetitive activities. I've been putting my pup Buddy on the lead when we walk by the river near my house, as it's still very swollen and I know he'll be straight in. One thing in Buddy's favour is he'll do anything for a snack...will Oscar abandon his frisbee for a food treat?

Jeepers, I can't believe it happened twice!!!!!! Good thing you were right there to see what was wrong.

Oscar, don't be doing that again!

hell yes !! He'll abandon his basket and his food bowl for ham !

we've walked up and done this stretch of river at least once a day since we got Oscar on Jan 1st. It's only been last week he's tried to play Superdog.
I wouldn't mind but he dont run down the back.. he leaps off.

I'll post a pic later of the offending bank !
