Sam had a nail removed today :( He began to limp yesterday, not badly and in fact once outdoors , he didn't limp at all but this morning, there was obviously something wrong with his paw , I thought he might have broken a toe :( Vets just after lunch where it was found that a nail on his back left paw had split underneath, damaged right down into the nail bed itself, no wonder the poor love was limping . The Vet said that often, dogs require sedation to remove the nail, but as the big lad is so laid back and easily managed , we should try without knocking him out , I preferred this approach as last time Sam had GA, he was dreadful for hours afterwards, crying and distressed . Bless the lump, he was everso brave, the nail was lose and so came out very easily, he gave one little whimper and then the tail began wagging again , especially after a sea biscuit was given as a treat . Twice daily bathing after his outings and Metacam for a few days for pain relief, but normal service can resume , did I mention that I love Sam ? :) :)

Ouchies! Poor Sam! Silly question, will it grow back? I think more sea biscuits are on the cards for him while it gets better :)

Fiona, Vet said that as the nail bed was clean and uninfected , a nail should grow back :)

Cod and rice from fish4dogs. The last time Charlie went to Sam's vet (we use then when we are in cornwall) he managed to get 4 sea jerky bones! Supposedly to test whether his sore throat was getting any better. ::) ;D ;D ;D.
