About 2 weeks ago our usually ravenous 5 month old started leaving her food and not eating. She's been fed top quality puppy food and she just stopped. After a couple of days of her just grazing her food, off to the vet. Hundreds of dollars later and 2 more visits - xrays, palpitation, every blood scan imaginable, she rec'd a clean bill of health other than the vet saying she was running a 2deg fever at the first visit. By mixing canned food, and mixed veggies with her food, she started to eat. A couple of days ago she was back to attacking the dry kibble as if nothing happened. Last night she just picked at her food and this morning, she nibbled about 5% of her food and then left it. I took her out for a romp in the snowy woods, about 3 miles with up and downs and when she came back she didn't touch her breakfast. Her vet said it's important to just getting her to eat so I mixed tuna with her kibble and she ate about 80%, and 100% of the tuna. She had an antibiotic for 8 days after her first visit she was tested for Lyme, anaplasmosis and others, all negative. Is it possible that she has just gotten to be a picky eater? We changed kibble a few days ago, and mixed it with her other kibble. Other than stopping eating, she is fine in every way - peppy, out 3-4 miles of walking and running off leash every day. Loves dog treats used for training. Thoughts? Our other Lab always ate like it was her last meal, and our new 5 month old did the same until now. Thanks
Re: Our 5 month old Lab pup has stopped eating Hello! Welcome to the forum! My boy eats everything and anything! I'm sure people with more experience of fussy eaters will be along o help. It does sound like being fussy - no problems found by the vet - happy to eat tuna...
Re: Our 5 month old Lab pup has stopped eating Have a good look at the kibble. We had a bag once where the fats had gone off and our previously greedy pup did exactly what you describe. A new bag of kibble was curative!
Re: Our 5 month old Lab pup has stopped eating He there, welcome to the forum. You know.....I would be a little more concerned, as your dog didn't actually get a clean bill of health if she was running a bit of a temp (even if it was just 2 degrees). Antibiotics can upset the gut a bit - cause both nausea/off food and diarrhoea. But if she is off them a good few days and still not herself, I would be back to the vets if it was me. (no veterinary training like Lochan to back that up though) If in doubt, always take a look at the food though! Sounds like she had a good old romp which is a good sign too. Jac
