I was out walking at the beach with my 4 Year old Golden Labrador, Suddenly he starts crying very loud and cant walk, I pick him up and start to rub his front right leg and then I put him down again and he can walk okay but quite unsure, this has happened before about 3 years ago and I done the same thing and he just carried on as normal, I have no idea what this could be, Has anyone else had this problem with their Labrador?

Hello there, and a very warm welcome to the forum. Tell us a bit more about your dog - what's his name?

I don't know what might be wrong with your dog I'm afraid. Perhaps you could mention it to your vet the next time you are there, but it might have been something completely random like a sharp bit of shell in his paw or something like that?

Hey, Thanks.. he is a 4 year old golden Lab Called Archie, I assumed it was his joints because when i rub them he cries a bit but then after 5/10 minutes he is fine, Both times its happened he has been running around none stop for a good 45 minutes, I originally thought he has just given himself a dead leg off running too much then I remembered reading somewhere they are prone to problems with their joints.

    Welcome to the forum :)

I agree with Julie that the best thing is just to get your vet to check him out at your next visit. If it's only happened twice in 4 years I wouldn't be too worried, but do keep a eye on him to see if he limps or looks stiff or anything like that. If you see anything like that then make a vet appointment.

Thanks guys you have reassured me, I have never had any issues with his health in 4 years, I have had some issues with his ears but that comes and goes, I will book a vet appointment when the bank holiday weekend is over just to be on the safe side!

Thanks again and happy Easter from Me and Archie

Archie is gorgeous, just like my boy Homer.

Could me have twisted his ankle or elbow?

Naya he is a golden Lab, 2 shades of golden some light some dark just the picture quality isn't very good on the avatar.

I've had him since he was 8 weeks old and loved every minute of it, we celebrated his 4th birthday on Monday and hopefully many more healthy years ahead of him.

And yes Jes that's what I originally thought maybe it was a twist or sprain, and thanks Helen :)

Hello and welcome from me and Lilly.
I know when Lilly twisted her wrist a couple of years ago she squealed and couldn't walk on it for about 10 mins. Then she gradually was able to weight bear more over an hour or so.
We Had a bit of a mad dash to the vets before closing time but I think to be honest it was a bit of overkill
Sounds like Archie will be fine.

Yeah when he started crying I was in shock I didn't know what to do so I carried him for about 5 minutes then put him down and he was walking alright but quite unsure, hopefully he will be much better tomorrow.

    Thanks :)
