Hello all! My gorgeous boy Kyro came to us at around 10 weeks old, all fine, vets gave him the OK upon his vaccinations etc. But I’ve noticed that over the course of the last few months (he’s now almost 7 months) his bottom jaw has become significantly shorter than his top jaw. This did not used to be the case and his top and bottom jaw used to align normally. I contacted the vet and they assured me that labs are a breed in which their head shape changes throughout growing up until around 15 months, yet another vet said he needed dental work. He’s very happy in himself, he’s eating and drinking and isn’t showing any signs of discomfort. Has anyone else had this problem and if so should I take the advice of the first vet and let him “outgrow it” or should I take him for dental work? thanks!
We were told when we were getting our pup he had a slight overbite on his final vet visit. We did end up having to have his lower puppy canines removed as they were digging into his palate. We thought we would have to have his adult canines removed as well but we did ball therapy with him for a few months (a very hard ball like a ball hockey or lacrosse ball) and it actually guided his teeth into a position where they did not impact his palate. One other vet told us we would have to take him to a specialist in Montreal (we live in NS). He is 13 months now and no issues or additional surgeries required. If it isn't impacting his health (digging into his palate) or his eating/drinking I would wait and see the outcome when he gets a bit older and his adult teeth come in.
