A friend has asked me to take her two dogs for a walk this evening because she can't do it herself. So, I'm going to have three six-month old puppies and one hooligan 4-year old. They love walking together and playing together. But, I would like to start using this kind of walk as a training opportunity for my two. Since it will just be me with all four of them, I can go as slowly as I like without their "mum" wanting to stride on (she's a walking machine!). So, I was thinking about keeping it really simple; maybe putting mine (one at a time) on the lead and asking for a little loose-lead walking with the distraction of the others running around. Maybe very short sit/stays. "Look at me"s. Anything else you would suggest for the first time training in this type of scenario?
Re: "Pack walk" training opportunities I think the things you mention would be more than enough for your first trips out
Re: "Pack walk" training opportunities
A valium!
you're probably right. Willow and Annie spend the whole time playing rough. I have to take my dogs' harnesses off, because Annie grabs at them all the time. She has no manners! So I'll take collars for doing a bit of individual lead work. Buster (the older one) runs off into the mountains or village on occasion. Maybe I should concentrate on training those two instead of mine I've just put some sausages in the oven for training treats...
Re: "Pack walk" training opportunities I think we need a videographer to follow you...this should be good! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Re: "Pack walk" training opportunities Haha, it was fine! Except when it was Willow's turn to go on lead and Buster came over and started tugging on her lead. All 38kg of him.
