Cooper (almost 16 months) keeps licking his left paw. I have checked and re-checked the paw and between toes for cuts, objects, dry spots, etc. Can find absolutely nothing, but it is just his left paw....I realize it has been brutally hot and humid here and, although I have central air, he does go out.....not on concrete but on grass and, at day care, on astro turf or something similar. Could he have burned his pads? There is nothing you can see. But if it is a burn due to heat what can I put on it? Thank you.

Do you get sudocrem where you live ? if so , apply a little, if not bathe the paw in cooled boiled salt water . If it is a burn it would be odd that the other paws are not affected ? Is it possible Cooper could have walked awkwardly and maybe sprained a toe ? I would pop him to your Vets in a couple of days if he is still licking at it as something is obviously bothering hmi, poor love .

Hello Kate, no....we do not get sudocrem....it will take over a month to get it through Amazon or EBay...but see that it is used for baby rashes and skin so I am going to my pharmacy to see what they have for babies here in the USA.
Thaks for answering....if I cannot get Sudocrem, will bathe the paw in cooled boiled salt water. You are right about it being a bit odd if it got burned and the other one isn't bothering him! Could be a sprained toe....but he is licking the actual pad part of his paw. Will go the vet route if he is still doing it tonight when I pick him up from day care.
    Thanks for the info....much appreciated.

It could have been an insect bite or just landed the wrong way. I couldn't see anything when Chepi was licking a spot on her leg, then she licked so much it got sore. So it's worth keeping an eye on. There's plastic turf at Chepi's day care and I know it's possible to burn pads on it.

I had the ladies at Cooper's day care also check his paw and they could not see anything but will keep my eye on it and, if it continues, will go and see the vet. Thanks for your responses.
