Our year old boy has been peeing a lot...esp at night. He has a dental stick a day, which he drinks alot after, so pretty sure this in the reason but in the space of an hour he could ask to go out 3/4 times. He is fine within her himself but can't help be a little a worried. We have got a vets appointment in a couple of days so will get him checked out. Has anyone else had problems with dental sticks?
We have also just got a new pup so his routine has been put out a bit.

If it's Pedigree Dentastix, I would personally avoid them, and have personally given away lots that I was given when the pups were young. They're just not nutritionally sound. A kong packed with something like mince, or soaked kibble etc would be far better for him and would last longer, especially if you can give frozen (if he's not used to kongs, I'd start off with them not frozen, though, to get him hooked).

That aside, I've not heard of them specifically being linked to excessive urination, so I would say that a trip to the vets is in order, in case he has a UTI.

I also think Dentastix are dreadful things - empty calories, and I can't believe they do anything whatsoever for teeth.

But it's much more likely that your dog needs a vet visit than the dentastix being a problem. Skip the dentastix anyway - you'll do your dog a favour. :)

Thank you for your reply, will definitely ring the vets in the morning see if we can bring his appointment forward(just really odd its only of a evening after the dental stick) will stop the dental sticks, he loves a carrot so will stick to them. He does have a Kong to keep him entertained while we are out. He has a bone every now and then but a bit difficult at the moment with the pup.

When you say he is weeing at night....do you mean in the home? Are you sure he is weeing - or is he marking? If you have a new puppy, and that new puppy is peeing in the house, I guess that could prompt a near adult dog to mark.

I was worried about this with my older entire dog when I got my new puppy, but luckily he just viewed the baby pup weeing on the rug with disgust at the uncouth brat...:D:D:D

He asks to go out, the pup is actually surprising good with going toilet outside with very little accidents indoors....at the moment ;) where's Archie was always abit of a sod and took quite a while to train ( I blamed the puppy pads so tried not to use them as much this time round) I will give the vets a call in the morning just to be on the safe side.

Yes, I would. :) Sounds most likely like a UTI. Hope you get him sorted soon.

Drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot, (not just marking) is one of the signs of Diabetes. Our first Lab, Ginger, became diabetic at 12 years. With insulin shots and testing, she did very well for another 4 years.

We have got an appointment Friday to get him checked, he has been a lot better today with cutting the dental stick out (although not sure he is too happy) but still going to get him checked rather be safe than sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have said peeing alot as really only of a evening and it started when I gave him dental sticks. He is dry during the night etc think it's me being a worry wart. My mother in laws dog is diebetic, she has been on insulin for years and still going at 15.
