We arrived here at our chalet at about 3:30. We unpacked and took Penny for a walk. She had her dinner at about 5, maybe just after, as usual, then she settled down on the bed with me with a rawhide. We sat down about 6:45 for dinner and then... Penny brings up her tea and the bits of chew, plus a couple of chips she snaffled off the floor, in six alarmingly large puddles! After clearing those up, I sat back down to finish my dinner which was now cold. She then brings up a handful more puddles, which are brown and slobbery. So I clear those up. Ten minutes later she brings up 3 puddles of yellow bile. Then lies down on her bed looking sad. Five minutes ago she brought up two more puddles of bile, which are now watery consistency rather than the stringy, jelly-like of the last round. I'm getting a bit worried now. I've sent my OH out for some more cleaning supplies as I've gone through a whole roll of kitchen paper and there's nothing in the chalet provided for cleaning purposes! No mop and bucket or anything! (Thankfully the chalet has laminate flooring) Penny is now curled up on the sofa next to me. Anyone got any advice what could have caused this? I think she possibly got quite warm on the car journey but we stopped halfway and let her stretch her legs and have a drink. She was quite worked up and seemed a bit stressed whilst we were setting up our stuff in the chalet and it's been really warm in here - the ventilation is quite poor. She ate her normal food at dinner time, the rawhide is something she's had dozens of times before with no issues. Even the chips aren't new! The only thing I can think of that is new diet-wise is that I've started her on some skullcap and valerian tablets a couple of days ago to help with her anxiety and nervousness for the duration of our holiday. She's on the lowest dose for her weight range. Any thoughts? I'm off to look up the local emergency vet just in case. As I've just finished writing this she's brought up another couple of puddles of bile, but these were smaller and it was longer since the last time she was sick.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Oh poor love , I tend to think its the journey too ,plus being somewhere strange , they do get stressed easily . Just try to act normally around her , and hopefully she will be loads better tomorrow and enjoying herself x
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! I'm just quite worried about the amount that she has brought up, and how often. She's very rarely sick, and when she is it'll be about three or four puddles one time and that's it
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Oh dear poor Penny. It could be the change in water too. Hopefully all will settle quickly, fingers crossed.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Poor thing How long was your journey? - it could just be the excitement/anxiety of somewhere new on top of the car journey. Fingers crossed it settles....what a worry though.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! I suppose I would phone the emergency vet to discuss things on the phone before it gets too late this evening. I recently had to do this for my cat. A call out fee goes up massively after 10 pm I think. Maybe, just talking to a vet will reassure you enough to see how she goes overnight. Maybe you could call your vet at home for advice. I know when I did it I didn't get charged and had a detailed discussion. That's just me though. However, you probably know best and just do what you think you should. I hope she feels better soon and hopefully you'll have a lovely holiday
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! We went for a little wander so she could go to the toilet and she seems to have perked up a bit. She hasn't been sick for almost an hour so hopefully we are past it now. Got the vets number handy just in case. There's one just about five mins away from where we are that are 24hrs which is good. I'll give them a call in the morning if she's sick again over night. She's still drinking ok so I'm not worried about dehydration.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Good that she's drinking water, hope you have a peaceful night! Have you got something to give her in the mortal that will be gentle on her stomach. You might want some yoghurt too to replace some of her good bacteria....I'm sure you know all that already, big hugs
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Poor penny and poor you. I hope she's feeling better in the morning. Not the best start to your holiday having to worry. It could be a combination of the journey, heat and then eating on an unsettled stomach. As long as she can keep water down that's the main thing. I do hope the rest of you hols goes to plan and you have a lovely time.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Ah poor Penny (and you), hopefully that's the end of whatever upset her. Hope you have a relaxing night and that she's better to enjoy her hols tomorrow.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Poor Penny, I hope she recovers and that it was the journey and that you get to enjoy your break Lauren. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, please let us know how she is. Take care x
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Poor Penny. Hope you have a good night and that she's better in the morning.
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Poor penny, hope she is better in the morning and is not sick anymore
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Hope she manages to settle tonight and isn't sick again :'( Hope you enjoy your holiday x
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Hoe she is much better tomorrow. I'd take a 'wait and see' approach as others have said
Re: Penny being sick on holiday! Was wondering how Penny was, hope you had a lovely evening, no doubt you are out exploring at the moment!
