At long last, the day is almost here! Penny is getting speyed on Friday! I opted for the keyhole procedure as she is such an active dog, the recovery time is so much better and the wounds are tiny as compared to a traditional Spey. I've seen a lot of complications from traditional speys so hopefully we won't get any of that! It's been a long time coming! She should have been done back in March/April but she unexpectedly came into season after only 13 weeks since her previous one. We think these short cycles could be part of the reason behind her behaviour - a lot of it is anxiety based and with short seasons they don't get enough time for the hormone levels to deplete between seasons so they don't get the calming effect of not having them raging around. Basically she was PMSing aaaalll the time!! I am nervous, I won't deny it. I shouldn't be as I've witnessed hundreds of dogs have the op, but it's different when it's your own dog isn't it. I was a nervous wreck when she had an anaesthetic for her X-rays so I know I'll be just as bad if not worse when Friday comes around!! Wish us luck!!
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Best of luck Lauren. We know you will take the best care of your girl. I'm sure all will go well and she will be a "new liberated woman" afterwards, xx

Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Good luck for a Friday Lauren I'm sure it will all go smoothly. I will be thinking of you and Penny. Please let us know how you get on
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! I'm sure it will be totally fine and life will be noticeably easier afterwards
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Its funny how we get nervous over our dogs, even though we know that most spays have no complicatons. I hope it goes well for Penny and that she recovers from keyhole quite quickly.
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Molly was done 2 months ago. I wasn't able to have the keyhole procedure as my local vet didn't offer it and I didn't want to go too far in case of post operative problems. With modern techniques and medication it was easy. Molly's wound was closed with super glue. She didn't need a collar, I guess the glue was not as itchy as stitches. My vet keeps spays overnight so they can have pain killing injections. When I picked her up next day she was her usual bouncy self. My biggest problem was the "keeping her quiet" bit. She'll be fine.
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Good luck Lauren, she will be just fine . I was so pleased to get Millie spayed due to her phantom pregnancies , life is so less complicated for her now , it will soon be a dim and distant memory for Penny
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Ah Lauren, you love her to bits so of course you will worry, but she will be fine,in fact she will be better than fine when she's back home with you and recovered because she won't be at the mercy of those horrible hormone fluctuations.does she go in first thing?will be thinking of you x
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Yep, 7:50 am she's booked in for so doesn't even get her morning walk!!!

[/quote] That's good though - she won't have to spend too much time hungry from not having breakfast (which it is so hard not to feel guilty about!).
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Hi Lauren, I will be thinking about you and Penny. Glad it's nice and early so less time for you to get stressed. All will be fine. Please let us know how she is if you can. Lots of hugs to both of you xxxx
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! Good luck, she'll be fine and back to normal quickly, but without those pesky hormones!!
Re: Penny's getting speyed!!!! I could have sworn I'd posted a reply but obviously didn't. Strange. Good luck tomorrow Penny sweet dreams while you're asleep, everything will be ok Lauren. Meg bounced back after she was spayed. She was a bit sleepy the night of the op but back to normal the next morning.
