Hi my wife and I recently got our first ever puppy ! He is a 9 week old black lab. When ever he is left alone he will play with his water bowl ( usually emptying it ). How do we get him to stop. I don't know how soon after we leave he is doing it so we're a bit worried he might not have the water he needs because of it. Thanks for you help Will
Ours did the same thing - we got a large deep ceramic bowl as it was heavy and he couldn't tip it - seemed to work and luckily it was a short lived phase! We also put a second smaller bowl down as I was also worried he would empty all the water! Labs + water = fun and games!!!
Hello there, and welcome to the forum. Yes, a deep heavy bowl is the way to go here - something the pup can't tip up. Doesn't stop them sitting/standing/splashing in it, but they do grow out of it.
Hi and welcome to the forum. What's your boy's name? It's very common for a puppy to play with the water in it's bowl. It's a fun toy as far as they are concerned. It's best to use a heavy, deep, ceramic bowl which is harder to move, tip or spill but some pups still manage it..
We got a heavy ceramic bowl with a narrow neck. She couldn't lift it or get her paws in. The behaviour stopped within days.
We should get heavier bowls for Homer. He still bangs them around the kitchen when he's finished dinner and loves to splash the water out of his bowl. We only put in a little water at a time or we have a flooded kitchen! No growing out of it with Homer
I have this Mason Cash water bowl for mine. It's very heavy, so they can't move it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002TRKDYK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage For food bowls, I use these Hunter bowls, which I really like. They don't clatter around the floor like some bowls (which puts my teeth on edge, even though it only lasts a matter of seconds). They are solid and pretty heavy, but the metal part pops out so they are easy to fill. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0055N59TY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
We have pot water bowls - all three have tried to paddle in them even 'tho they can't pick them up, but they soon grew out of it. I distracted them whenever they did it .
Haha - Twiglet's favouite toy is a stainless steel puppy bowl, the noise drives my friend maaad and I have to put it away when she's around - I don't even notice it! .
