Hi. My 15 months labrador will have mate soon. But before i want to know things to keep in mind which are most important. First of all If babies get born, what surface i need to give to prevent hip dysplasia. Because all babies born with perfect hip. Slippery surfaces is enemies of large breed dogs. Should i give harsh cemented floor? And others thing's . Please guide me. This is my first pet so i cant be expert like you guys.
Hi Mandeep. As you've posted about before your dog has very bad hips. I know that a vet has told you that your dog has bad hips because of being kept on a slippery surface or because of Ricketts. However it is actually most likely that she has bad hips because her parents also had bad hips. That is, it is most likely genetic. This is a genetic problem that her puppies will inherit. You should definitely not breed from your dog. It would not be kind or right to bring puppies into the world, knowing that there is a very high chance that they will have serious hip problems like your dog. Please don't breed from your dog.
Hi Mandeep, I completely support Rachael's advice above, and, even if your dog didn't have the health condition she has ,she is very young to consider mating her. Pippa took the time to write the following article : http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-breeding-should-you-let-your-dog-have-puppies/ It raises many of the issues you should consider to responsibly breed a litter of puppies. Regards Angela
Yea i think you both are right. I should not breed her. Btw i wasnt breeding her to sell. I was helping mature what my pet deserved. Anyways if this can cause problem for her i will not breed. Thanks.
She doesn't need to breed to mature. She just needs your time and help I think you're making the right choice not to breed from her.
I'm with the others, 100%. I really, really, really don't think you should breed from your dog. It's not true that all puppies are born with perfect hips; there are many that are born with bad hips, elbows, and a myriad of other problems. Not all dogs need to have puppies; they get along fine without. It's definitely the responsible choice not to breed from her.
Good decision Mandeep, continue to look after her well and manage and help her with her dysplasia and she will grow and mature into a wonderful dog x
That is a really good decision. If your dog was to become pregnant the weight of carrying the puppies would put a lot of strain on her joints. So it would not be good for her health. I know from all your posts that you really love your dog and want the best for her.
yea thanks for guiding me.. btw i think mobile view have no option of edit post, i was to write "nature" not "mature" anyways. thanks again. i think this thread should market solved..
yea absolutly, i dont want to have EGO but my love with her is like.. you can judge, my home is 3 floor, she live in 3rd floor in harsh floor(made specially for her) for going outside, i lift her(30kg) from 3floor to outside, and sometimes i get breathless XD
You obviously love your dog very much, and not breeding from her will be the best decision for her, and for her unborn puppies. You have the full support of the moderator team on this decision.
