I have two labradors named dexter and walter and i want to know if they are pure because my neighbour told me their tail is very long and dont look like otter tail, so please tell me your opinions by seeing at the attached pics. Thank you
Re: Please tell me if my labs are pure breed I'm afraid I can't see any pictures and from my limited experience it's very hard to tell from a photo if a lab is purebred or not. I'm sure your two dogs are lovely and if it's any consolation my lab doesn't have the classic otter tail either, it's a bit thin and has some fluff rather than being nice and thick with wrapped round fur as per the breed standard it still wags very well though!

Re: Please tell me if my labs are pure breed Hi there and welcome You are very welcome to post photos here (you'll need an account with Flickr or Photobucket or something similar) but unfortunately, there is absolutely no way of verifying a dog's pedigree from a photo. A dog can look like a purebred and be a cross-bred. And a dog can look like a complete mix, and be purebred.

Re: Please tell me if my labs are pure breed Does it matter if Dexter and Walter are pure bred or not? They are your dogs. Labradors come in a variety of sizes. Molly is quite small, but there big heavy Labradors out there. I have had crossbreed dogs in the past they have been wonderful dogs and I have loved them. I would still love Molly whatever she was. What has it got to do with your neighbour? Unless they are a World Class dog breeder I wouldn't worry about what they say. Enjoy your dogs.
Re: Please tell me if my labs are pure breed If you have pedigrees for both then the likelihood is that they are pure bred, but accidents can happen and not be known way back. I have two Labs with good pedigrees, many FTCH but one looks as if he has a "touch of the Flatcoat" and the other has a tail which is far too long! Labs these days, apart from show dogs, come in many shapes and sizes.

Labs come in all shapes and sizes ,us members of the forum can attest to that .You shouldn't be worried about what anyone else thinks now you have your dogs,their health and well being is the most important thing,the cosmetics of their appearance isn't !love them and enjoy them. Great choice of names by the way

I always loved them no matter what they are, the reason i asked this question was to only know a little better about them. Re: Please tell me if my labs are pure breed They look like normal working Labs to me, lighter bodies than show Labs. The tail's a bit longer and thinner than the usual "otter" tail, and the ears in the picture of the dog on the bricks are slightly longer than usual, but I've seen those traits in working dogs before. If I met them in the street I'd say they were Labs. The key questions are: 1. Do they like swimming? 2. Are their noses glued to the ground during walks? 3. Will they eat absolutely anything? If you can answer "yes" to all these questions you definitely have Labs!

All Labradors look a bit different, just like people Your dogs are not overweight and that's probably the main reason why people might think they are not pure bred. People expect Labradors to be very round and tubby and, when they are not, they think that the dog mustn't be a Labrador. Most of us who keep our dogs slim have had people tell us that our dogs are not Labradors. It has happened to me quite a bit, and both my dog's parents are Show Champions. So, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you
