Poor Charlie is vomiting badly this morning. After his morning walk (he was fine on the walk) - he vomited 3 times between getting out of the car and the kitchen. After a little while, I gave him some water with a tiny bit of fish whisked in, which he drank but then vomited that up too. He took a few mouthfuls of water from his bowl but that's all. Poor boy. I know it's wrong to randomly connect two things and jump to conclusions, but he did have an Advocate treatment yesterday. I think he was sick the previous time too, but I told myself adult dogs vomit from time to time and it's not necessarily anything to do with the Advocate. Still, I think I'll ask the vet to work out a new regime for him....
Poor man What are you aiming to treat with the Advocate? Hopefully there'll be a suitable alternative, like Bravecto or Nexgard, if it's for flea prevention. Hope he feels much better soon.
Poor Charlie! Could he have eaten something on his walk? Just worried because some months ago ,near us, there was a case of some idiot deliberately dropping bits of poisoned sausage. Hope it's just a passing bug and that he'll soon be over it.
I choose it mainly because it comes with ear mite protection - not that his previous ear trouble has definitely been attributed to ear mites, but my vet says with a dog that has had the problems he has, let's not risk ear mites too....plus the intestinal worms it treats and it also covers lungworm (Charlie is a snail eater if I don't watch him, and I am in a high lungworm area). I just add a tapeworm treatment to the Advocate, about every 4 months (Charlie is not at high risk of tapeworm, really) and that's it. So it's got good coverage for what I need. Ticks aren't a huge problem for me, I usually just use one Advantix treatment in the peak month of June and he tends to stay clear. But, if it is the Advocate that's upsetting him, I'm sure there is an alternative regime I could work out.
That's always a worry....he doesn't have any other symptoms apart from the vomiting. He is reasonably bright in himself (obviously not top notch), would eat if I gave him food (he says he is starving ), and he's not drooling or otherwise looking uncomfortable. So, while I hate it when my dog is sick, I've no real reason to think it's an emergency (there is a 24hr vet hospital, just 10 mins drive, that provides an emergency cover service, but I don't think that's necessary).
Having said that....he just got out of his crate (I'm working in the kitchen to keep him company), wandered over, all waggy tailed, looking happy, with a "how about some lunch?" look on his face....and then vomited on my shoe. Just clear fluid, the few mouthfuls of water he had earlier. Poor boy. Whatever it is, has seriously upset his tum.
Aw poor Charlie indeed! I hope his tum settles soon. You might be right about the Advocate seeing as you have seen this type of reaction before, I guess I would be suspicious too. Hopefully he will feel better soon and you can look into that further.
Thanks all - he seems a bit better now. He perked up enough to have a little walk round the block, and half a tin of duck and tapioca sensitive tum food for lunch. He's snoozing now. So seems to be on the mend...
Aw, it's horrible when our pooches aren't well. Willow had a couple of days with a squiffy tummy. Last night, I slept in the living room with her so I could let her out if she needed to go. Ironically, she was fine, but I had obviously also picked up a tummy bug which meant it was me that needed "letting out" several times! She's perfectly fine today. Hopefully Charlie will be completely back to normal soon.
He hasn't been sick again, but keeps retching - we are wondering if he hurt his throat with all the vomiting this morning. It sounds like he is gagging, and trying to cough something up. When I took him out to the garden (in the middle of all the vomiting, thinking it was at least easier to clean up outside, with the hose) he was snatching at bushes and plants (obviously I stopped him, but he still got a couple of mouthfuls) - I guess some kind of reflex to eat plants in order to vomit more, and I'm wondering it that ended up in him sicking up a bit of twig or something that scratched his throat. Wonder, worry, worry, wonder...as you do.... Anyways, see how he is in the morning, otherwise off to see Mr Vet. He's had another little walk, and the rest of the tin of sensitive tum food for his supper. So far, so good.
