More bladder issues. Rue has been having some UTI issues the past 6 months, most likely due to a recessed vulva. She made it through the summer without one but about a month ago had another one. The antibiotics seemed to help temporarily but she is again urinating a lot on walks -- usually around 5 or 6 times within a 15-20 minute span. Really, that is her only symptom. She isn't straining/in pain, asking to go out more, or licking herself, etc. But her excessive urinating has me (and the vet) concerned because she doesn't normally do that when she's healthy. So we took her back to the vet today. Her urine came back fine with the initial testing so the vet called and said they were going to do a culture and then she said she wanted to do bloodwork to test to make sure it's not early stage kidney or Cushings disease. And of course hearing that makes me panic and my stomach flip flop! Trying not to worry as I know it's not common in young dogs, but it's almost impossible not to. We've been doing the daily cranberry supplements and wiping her every night before bed for months now. I also read that apple cider vinegar helps, so I may start adding that to her food once a day or mixing it in with her kong fillings. We were going to start putting away money for a trip to Mexico for next summer/fall, but that money may need to go toward surgery on her vulva instead if this doesn't get better soon. Poor girl. I wish I had researched this more before we got her spayed -- I had no idea letting them go through a heat cycle often fixes the bladder/recessed vulva issue. Poor Rue, it's so hard to not worry. I hope she gets fully better soon. She looks such a beauty. Re your trip to Mexico, I've just come back from there on Friday. If your looking for a lovely sandy beach, no rocks in the water, Iberostar Quetzel and Tucan in Playacar are fantastic or will be again by about December when rebuilt as was badly destroyed by a fire on our second day. I'd definitely go there again but not to where we were moved to. Won't hijack your post further though.
Poor Rue, try not to worry too much, and I now it's impossible not to. No googling about possible causes of her problem, we always find the worst possible scenario. It sounds as if your vet is working to eliminate possible scenarios so try to stay positive and there's plenty of support here for you. She's a real little beauty .
Oh no, good luck with the upcoming tests and let us know how you go. Love the photo, Rue has such beautiful eyes
She is beautiful! Hope you get soon answers! I know what it is to have a dog who is ill....Thinking about you Annemarie
Thank you all for the kind words! It's nice to be able to come vent here as I know you all understand. The vet called this morning and said her blood work came back fine and all her numbers looked great! Thank GOD. I allowed myself to peek at juvenile kidney failure last night on Google -- mistake, just like MaccieD advised against! I'm so glad it's most likely nothing too serious. We can handle another UTI. The culture results should be in by Friday and depending on that, they'd like to put her on another round of antibiotics for an extended period this time. Hopefully we can get this cleared up soon.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will check those out. We did Cancun for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely perfect. Mexico is great.
The on,y thing good about Dr. Google is the relief you get when you find out all those dire possibilities are ruled out! Here's hoping the antibiotics do the trick and Rue is better soon!
Good to hear that the results of the blood test look good, fingers crossed that the culture results come back good on Friday as well .
Rue is lovely glad it looks Like UTi. Don't be so hard on yourself everythings easy in hindsight. hugs x
