Simba is not nearly as bad a food their as he used to be, but he still has his moments....today, it is one of the coldest weekends of the winter so far and out furnace decided to die. When it's -20C outside this is no small thing so we have been occupied trying to get it going (no success yet, there's a part that needs to be ordered and we won't get it until Monday at the earliest) and in trying to find space heaters, fire wood, etc so we can keep the house warm enough that the pipes don't freeze. We got things more or less under control and were downstairs eating supper (where the fireplace is) and some friends dropped by with more space heaters. So I took OH's plate with his half-eaten pork chop on it and put it upstairs on the kitchen counter, where I figured it would be safer from a certain four-legged thief. I got visiting by the fire with my friend and OH was downstairs with her hubby fiddling with the furnace....so, you guessed it, when I came upstairs again the pork chop was missing from the plate
Hope he doesn't come to any harm....having just read a FB post about dogs dying after eating cooked bones doesn't help one's confidence....ack! I'm sure he'll be fine, he seems to pretty much have an iron stomach, but still....

Simba, you never let a chance go by :)

Although the rule is 'no cooked bones' that doesn't mean that cooked bone are going to automatically cause a problem. Both my dogs have scavenged their share of cooked chicken bones with no ill effect. I'm sure he'll be fine.

I sometimes put plates in the microwave or (cold) oven if I need to leave them unattended for a moment.

Yes, I let my guard down for a moment...lulled to a false sense of security. The OH has informed me that Simba also ate his doughnut that was left on the counter. And the bag it was in.

Hehe, nom nom nom! I'm sure Simba will be fine, but I'm sure you'll be keeping a good eye on him in the short term, anyway.

Pork chop and a doughnut. Sounds like a perfectly balanced meal to me :)

That's not a balanced diet, you're going to have to leave out some salad and veggies. :) I'd just watch and see. Years ago we always fed our dog scraps, lots of cooked bones and he survived. I wouldn't feed cooked bones on purpose now but I think the odds are Simba will be fine.

He spent an unrepentant night lounging with us by the fire...and managed to join us for a snuggle in the morning. I thought for sure I would have to get up and let him out in the night but he didn't stir even during the numerous times we had to get up and feed the fire...yawn.... Fingers crossed but so far so good....

Up chucked supper tonight...probably the bag playing havoc, but too cold outside to have a close look. Other than that he's been okay.

Sounds all good Lisa, did I jinx you mentioning him nicking the butter in the other thread? He doesn't want to lose his crown does he!Dexter chomped down a scavenged chicken carcass once when he was very young and for all I know it's still inside him...we didn't see it again either end!The donut (and bag ) probably served as cushioning! x

I image they are a bit like sharks and have stuff inside we don't even know about. Mine poor starved darlings go round the house like great white sharks on the prowl for anything Although Midge has never chucked up a suit of armour or a car tyre but she did spit a wooden chip fork at me and Rory regurated a treat bag up with the treats inside. It wasn't mine and we don't know were he got it from. Hope he's ok.

Tara is a devil for eating wood - any stick up the park will do, chomping it up like matchwood. Vet says it will do no harm, but I do worry when she poops logs! She does eat reasonably healthy, stealing apples off the counter (I know about the pips but the odd apple does not hurt).
