So Meg was spayed 2 weeks ago. She bounced back quickly and is totally back to normal. I have had 2 bitches before and had to be careful weight management but their coats lost their shine and I could never really get it back. They also went super fluffy (Newfies). Does anyone have any post spay top tips for trying to keep her as she was pre op. She is super sleek and shiny currently . Thanks, Emma :)

I have only had shorthaired bitches spayed and their coats never went fluffy and they didn't put weight on and coats remained shiny. However, I do know that spaniels can go 'fluffy' so maybe longer coated dogs like yours will do this. Maybe a fluffy coat will not shine? You could try adding an oil to their diet for example salmon oil or the one I use which is Yumega Plus for my Labradors,I only put a squirt in their diet once a day, not nearly as much as the suggested dose and their coats are very shiny.

My Tatze has exactly half the food she had pre-spay. I give her a squirt of salmon oil on each meal. She's fit, slim and shiny :)

When Juno was spayed the vet suggested a move to Royal Canin Neutered Large Breed. I had to reduce the amount she had compared to the recommended but never had any problems with weight or coat condition.

I didn't alter the amount of food I gave Willow, but she was spayed early (6.5 months) so wasn't fully grown and her exercise has increased as the months have gone on, so that's probably why it didn't need reducing. She has slightly less food than her (intact) brother. I add salmon oil to her breakfast because she can suffer a bit with dry skin, but with that, her coat is lovely and glossy.

Thanks all for your replies and tips. I shall cut her food back a tad and add a little salmon oil. Hopefully she will stay the sleek, shiny contented rocket she is
