i am a first time dog mommy and I adopted my little shiva from the shelter she is 6 months and a lab mix but looks just like a lab and every time I take her out she does #1 but I bring her in and not even 10 minutes later she’s peeing in the house. I understand she’s still learning but I just get so aggravated at the fact I just took her out and she comes in to use it again. And I know she can hold it because she holds it all night I just need some tips to make her stop using it in the house. PLEASE
Being able to hold it at night is no indication of bladder control during the day; at night, everything slows down. Consider it in yourself and in human children; we all need to wee more regularly during the day than we do at night. So, yes, it's just a learning phase. Do you give her praise and treats when she toilets outside? And do you use an enzymatic cleaner like Simple Solution to clean up any puddles inside?
I do I’ve been researching it a lot on here and I’ve tried almost everything people has suggested today I set alarms every hour to take her outside and I’m gonna keep watch of her very closely which I already do but when I think it’s safe because we just went outside she goes and potties somewhere and it’s never the same place twice
How long have you had her? It doesn't sound like long and it can take a while for rescue dogs to settle into a new home. As long as you clean up well with an enzymatic cleaner (not normal household products) and give her lots of praise for going outside, she'll get the idea soon enough.
She might be picking up on your aggravation. Frustrating as it is, clean up quickly with no fuss. Sorry if you are doing this anyway. Also confining to one part of your home might help for a while whilst she settles in with you. I kept in the kitchen with my puppy for what seemed like ages as we had a quick route to the outside - it was also easy to clean up any accidents.
Sorry for the late response! And thank y’all for taking time out of your day to response! But I was thinking about putting her in the kitchen until she is potty trained we have a crate and she does awesome in it and I’ve only had her for about a week so I know she’s not settled in yet. But I just got home from work and my boyfriend had her all day and she never once used the bathroom inside. He just took her out before I got home and I walk in and she pees in the floor. It could possibly be because she was excited to see me and I try not to get aggravated and let her see it because I know it’s not her fault it’s just so stressful for me especially being a first time dog mommy I just needed some reassurance that it will all get better someday and I won’t be cleaning up pee in the house for the next 17 years or however long she’s on this earth
