An update on Coco..Not an awful lot of off-lead so far. We were on the Dunce's Chair 2 weeks ago at training. Coco was so distracted and worked up, we spent the entire hour on a chair in the middle of the room, while the lesson went on around us. It was actually quite valuable in ignoring what is going on around. I spent a whole 5 days this week, just doing strict lead walking around our little estate. We were getting better and better. Saturday morning came and we went to a different place, big grassy coastal area, LOADS of dogs and people, OH in charge now. He complained that Coco was unruly and not doing as he was told, but from where I was standing, Coco wasn't being given any direction by OH. We ended the walk early, in a right mood. I took him out alone in the afternoon and did some "heel" in a field, then loads of off lead fetch/come - very successful. I felt it was important to have success. Training class on Saturday evening and Coco was amazing with OH! Great focus. Little reaction to the other dogs. I was so proud. OK, a few - and I mean few - outbursts..but mainly fantastic. Then a super, SUPER off-lead walk this morning - he had a ball, we were relaxed. Lots of close off lead walking, lots of "fetch", lots of great recall. It's lovely to see him just being a dog. Currently, our main problem is still other dogs - though getting slightly better all the time. And cats. Cats are a nightmare, and there are a lot of cats in our road
Well done Sue. Great to see you making progress with Coco. He's coming along really well and sounds as if you're having real success with off lead and recall. Forget about the not so good responses and focus on the good
Wow Sue, that is sounding fantastic! It's so lovely to hear that you are seeing the results of all of your hard work. We have lots of cats around us too. Ella's not to bothered by them but LOVES to eat their poo. Yuk. It really puts our 'leave it' training to the test.
He is loving it! We went for a forest walk today for the first time, no leads. Just me & the dogs. We had the forest to ourselves. I have never seen such joy! I let him run and be wild with random recalls thrown in. He discovered muddy pools and had a huge attack of the zoomies in and out of the mud, up and down the track. Oh to be a dog.
Sounds as if he had an absolutely brilliant time. Wish I had woods nearer me to visit. Nearest is 30 minutes in the car and have to check before hand for hunting days
