Like most dogs, Cooper will occasionally throw up. The unusual thing is on several occasions there is virtually nothing there. Just a little foam and liquid. Maybe a few table spoons. We have seen this happen maybe 4 times, at least 3 were in morning a little before we were getting up so presumably her stomach was empty. It has never happened more than once at a time, and I don't think even twice in a month. She always seems fine afterwards. Any thoughts?
Hunger pukes? Sometimes a little bedtime snack will cure that. If not I'd maybe mention to my Vet but it doesn't sound too worrisome, amount and frequency wise.
I had this with my pup occasionally from about 6 - 9 months. After discussion with the vet we now keep a small amount of kibble back from her evening meal and give it to her after her last trip outside at bedtime and it has solved the problem.
Hunger sounds a possible cause. I had a terrier that used to throw up early mornings if not fed straight away. Two meals a day instead of one helped but didn't stop it completely. Worth a chat with your vet when you next see him though.
Same happened with Belle. She started getting us up at 4am to go outside and eat grass/vomit a small amount of liquid/foam. The vet checked her over & said probably acid-stomach & to give her a little food before bed time. She VERY quickly got into that routine (starts pestering for supper from 9:30pm onwards). She's had no problems since. Coco thinks this "3rd meal" (it is TINY) is wonderful! The vet did mention that if the food didn't work she could prescribe ranitidine, an antacid. Glad we didn't need it.
Yeah, my old Bones was the same. Needed a snack last thing at night to keep him going until breakfast, otherwise he would sick up bile.
OK Thanks for the Info. I've never had a dog do that before. We will try feeding later, or a snack just before bed. Cooper is still on 3 meals a day, but we can do dinner latter with no problem, since we have a dog door.
Lilly has done this too - she gets 3 Gravy bones at bedtime now (courtesy of OH who hides them under our bed covers )
