Some of you may have noticed a deterioration in behaviour on our Labrador Site Facebook Page recently. I have posted an article addressing this on my personal website Puppies and propaganda
Re: Puppies and propaganda Very true! It was exactly this saw the parrot forum I run with 11,778 members turn into a dustbowl (not helped by the fact so many others clone-copies cropped up). It still exists as a source of information but the lovely day-to-day banter this forum enjoys has just evaporated over as short a time as the last 6 months
Re: Puppies and propaganda Well done, Pippa - we need more people to do the same. Keep up the good work!!
Re: Puppies and propaganda I completely agree. People should be able to make an informed choice and not feel bullied or in the wrong if they don't agree with something.
Re: Puppies and propaganda Definitely with you all the way on this one. I have been on a few web page forums / face books sites previously and have felt bullied on occasions. I'm glad to say that's not the case on here
Re: Puppies and propaganda I agree - very well put. I have seen other FB "communities" brought to breaking point by "insensitive" posters to put it nicely. You have hit the nail squarely on the head there.
Re: Puppies and propaganda A difficult one. Instinctively, I hate the thought of censorship, as i feel in a democracy everyone should have the right to state their own opinion. But with rights, come responsibilities - if you have the right to state what you feel, then you have the corresponding responsibility to treat others fairly, to listen to their arguments, and to argue your point rationally and with well-mannered restraint. unfortunately, people don't always follow those guidelines. I have left two forums because I was no longer willing to put up with the boorish, bullying behaviour of some members. Just because you can't see someone face to face, doesn't give you the right to treat them badly! So, in the interests of a polite, pleasant and yet lively and interested site, you may at times have to revert to a bit of 'benevolent dictatorship', Pippa! I feel most people on here will back you up on this.
Re: Puppies and propaganda Thee are rules of common decency and manners in participating in a community. Face to face most people stick to these socially acceptable behaviours.....online it seems to be a different matter and I think the only option is some operant conditioning (if that's the right term ). Actions have consequences and that lesson needs to be learned by some.
Re: Puppies and propaganda I completely support this. Too many times internet discussions end up as a "flame war". It's so annoying and ridiculous. Thanks, Pippa, for putting some thought into this and for providing such nice, civilized places for like- minded people to discuss their pets!
