We are having a Bbq this afternoon (in rain and high winds, but hey, we're British we will soldier on!) We have 12 adults and 13 children all under 7 coming, so it is going to be busy and not really a training opportunity as there are too many unpredictable children to coach in how to behave around her! And I know she'll get over excited and start jumping and mouthing. So do people think it is ok to crate her whilst people arrive and get settled, then maybe bring her out for a little while on her lead later? Or should I just crate her the whole time and on this occasion not bother with introductions! I plan to move her crate upstairs away from the action. I am guessing people will be here for around 4 hours, but that is much longer than she is normally crated for except overnight. She is 9 months old. Any thoughts appreciated!
Definitely crate her as everyone arrives. Then see how it goes. If she's away from the action, I'd be tempted to take the kids to see her up there a couple at a time, so you can keep them under control better. That many people in one go is asking for trouble. If she's over threshold and you know she won't cope with going down on her lead, then I would take yourself away from your guests a few times for maybe 20-30 minutes to do some little training games with her in her quiet space, just to break up the four hours for her and wear her brain out. And give her loads of kongs to keep her occupied
Wow! That's crazy, even without a puppy! I think snowbunnny's reply above covers it. Good luck and let us know how you get on
