    Hello,

My 7 month Labrador, Bruno, is crated during the day I'm at work, I have a camera and watch him all day (sleeps all the time), I work from 9 - 5. He gets let out at around 12/1 ish for about 30 mins, this is approximately 3/4 days a week depending on my gf's shifts. Im just looking for a bit of guidance on when i should consider leaving him out the crate at night, and during work days? Is this something I should just try if I feel he is ready? Or should i wait till a certain age?

Also he is in the crate from 4 - 6 hours at a time, is this something that is too long? He never has mistakes and never has in his crate. He has a little whine when first put in but after that settles and sleeps. Thank you in advance.

For me that would be too long, we try never to crate for longer than 2-3 hours max. And stopping crating really is a trial and error thing you just have to see how they get on.

Even though he is good in his crate I also agree with this being too long, that's why I asked about letting him out during night and day, I might leave him out of his crate tonight and shut the living room door removing all wires and anything dangerous. Fingers crossed if I do!

Leave the crate door open if you do he may chose to sleep in it even if he is free.

I de-crated Harley at 4/5 months at night (she sleeps upstairs with us), but was crated during the day until she was 6/7months. Initially she was in the kitchen, but now has the living room. I also have a webcam so I can check on her - she usually sleeps a lot too.
4-6 hours is a bit much to be alone - I only leave Harley for a max of 3.5-4 hours. I come home at lunch for an hour, then go back to work for max 3 hours (I work 30 hrs a week, flexi hours) On days that I work longer I have a dog walker who takes her out for 1.5-2 hours. I use the walker for day care occasionally which Harley loves :)
Could you look into a dog walker or day care? It takes the pressure off if you can't pop home lunch time :)

I have looked into a dog sitter, but currently the in-laws are helping and go around once maybe twice a day around mid-day to break the day up, he is put in his crate at around half 8 and let at around half 11/ 12ish, and then let out around half 3/ 4ish and then lets out at 6 until 11pm where he sleeps right through till 7. But i will try de-crating him tonight as this will break the day up from the crate and it will just be during teh day which may help?

Sorry, I thought you meant he was crated for 4-6 hours without a break. Glad you've got help with him during the day :)
Being de crated certainly made Harley happier and gave her that extra freedom :) not all dogs like being out and about of the crate, but Harley hated her crate and was brilliant once out :)
    Good luck :)
