Right, please forgive me if we've calculated this wrong. So, Dexter is 10.2kg and 3 months old now so checked the feeding chart on his food which states he should be having 3-4 cups per day based on a 'standard 8 ounce measuring cup'. That's the bit that is throwing us! We're from a generation of grams and kilograms : So that handy tool Google answered our question, "How many grams is 8 ounce?" The result...226g!!! Surely that's not right?! Dexter eats three times a day so that's nearly 700g a day?! Is that right? I think that's an awful lot!! He's on 80g per meal now as the breeder had him on 70g. Sorry if this is a stupid question but its really thrown us and I'm worried about over feeding him, which being a labrador wouldn't be hard Can anyone shed some light on what amount they fed their puppy?
Re: Puppy Food Amounts I'm in bed now but thinking back at 5 months he was on about 420 g over 3 meals which reduced in amount and to 2 meals at 6 months.....I've only done this for one dog and I know brands vary but 700 g sounds too much to me......I've always fed slightly less than the recommended amount even when I've factored in his treat allowances just to stay on the side of slim.... See what else you hear in replies....I find the feeding guides very confusing....I just want to know what I feed my dog for the weight he is that day....notbthevfull grown weight he will be! X
Re: Puppy Food Amounts Puzzle is 11 1/2 weeks old, and weighs 8.5kg at the moment, she is on about 230g a day, so i would just give him 226g per day and see how he goes, maybe up it about 300g as he is a big boy and go from there. This is the feeding guide we are using 700g a day seems way to much for a puppy, of his size, even our fully grown pyrenean cross does not eat that amount, he is only on 250g and his recommended daily amount is 600g
Re: Puppy Food Amounts Thanks very much for the table and advice Annabelle! That makes much more sense ;D Angela thank you too! I said to Karl I was worried in case we were feeding way below the recommended amount. Dexter is a big boy but the vet said if you can see his ribs, up his intake of food. I was thinking "To what? Give me a number!!" I get a feeling being from Costco the puppy food is American wording...
