Been looking around for puppy/dog food for my Lab and have come across some called Lifestage. Its Jollyes Pet own brand and has good meat content in it with a good price. Aldo I don't like JWB food and lots of other food I looked at has lots of cereals in them. http://www.jollyes.co.uk/jollyes-lif...e-options.html Any of you guys come across it?
"Wheat and grain free" is somewhat misleading - it appears to be wheat free, yes - but it still has lots of cereal in it, corn, rice & oats. Price-wise I can see it's tempting. I know what a nightmare it can be finding a suitable food if your dog has a sensitive gut.
TBH I feed my last two dogs on crap and never had any problems also they lived a long life. My folks have had lots of dogs and feed them on crap also with no problems. Going to add a VERY little bit of canned stuff to it just to moist it a little and when the wife cooks chicken she can have some of that with it instead. Trying to more sensible this time and this seems better than lots of premium food.
One thing you do need to be careful of is the amount of cereal/grain the in the food and how easily labs put on weight. Also if you intend to add canned food you will need to reduce the amount of kibble given.
Yep, we all know how labs like food, particularly illicit snacking when they're on a walk! It is easier though to watch their weight and keep them slim than have to put them on a diet to reduce weight. I think we tend to be more conscious of our dog's weight than our own
I naively thought all dogs could eat crap. Belle (our 10 yr old mongrel) eats Winalot tins with Wilkinson's mixer - proper crap - she loves it & thrives on it. We tried old Scooby on that when he arrived (following a couple of months on a vegan diet in his previous home!) - it was NOT good - huge, loose stool. Tried Hi-Life semi-moist - same result. Tried Chappie kibble on the suggestion of the local pet shop - but he didn't like this and picked at it and left it (he's a very odd Lab who isn't food-obsessed). We've ended up on a horribly expensive but grain free one - and I'm not inclined to chop & change further as we generally have kickable poo now - it's fraught if your dog has dodgy bowels.
As they say if your dog likes it then go with it. I'm going to try it and not be sucked in but it is hard when one packet says this and one says that. TBH don't we all like eating crap (not literally) that's not good for us and dogs are like us......greedy.
I personally like to feed my dog a good quality diet. For us that means a predominantly raw diet, with some human leftovers, some veg and a variety of treats. Our motto is 'a variety of fresh, unprocessed foods'. Supposed to be a good basis for a human diet, so why not for a dog (obviously with a much higher proportions of raw meat on the bone...!). Anyway, just one of the many opinions on diet that are about there We all are allowed junk sometimes though, including Obi!
Think we should just give them 5 a day like us. Oh wait I remember health people saying we should eat 5 a day then they changed and said more like 7 a day. Then drinking was bad for you then they said a glass of red a day was good for you. Think I might just put it on a pizza diet and drink cider and join the dog gym.
LOL, yes, nutrition is a field in its infancy and we really know very little, so I take your point And I do like the sound of the pizza and cider diet.
