Re: Puppy food Just saw this post - did you get there? The link to Pippa's puppy feeding page is http://www.thelabradorsite.com/?p=3984 If you are looking which brand to use though, you will get a different answer from just avout everyone you ask! Good luck ;D jac
Re: Puppy food Thank you very much, will have a look. We have now got Chloe on Welbeloved, she is now 14 weeks old and on 400 g a day, this does not seem to be upsetting her tummy, so fingers crossed, all is ok for now. The vet sold us some Prokolin which was £17 it is £10 72 on the internet, so bought a spare. This is a kaolin and probiotice, which settled things down, we think the amount of food ie at the time Purina was too much at once, and now on Welbeloved and feeding six times a day, then five times a day, and now four times a day. I now need to find the link to the toilet training, if anybody knows where it is, doing well when reminded, however, came in twice today and weed on the morning room carpet, after me being outside with her for over half an hour!!! :'(
Re: Puppy food I need to change Beulah's food - she came from breeder with adult alpha kibble & minced chicken - now she has come down with a bit of collitis vet has recommended chicken, rice & scrambled egg for next 24 hrs. Trying to find her a good complete dry food but it's hard to figure out how much it will cost!
Re: Puppy food I always have a tube of Prokolin in the fridge too , especially given Sams filthy eating habits at times NorfolkHomemadeMum , if your pup has a sensitive tummy , maybe try her on a wheat free kibble , I feed Sam on Salmon and Rice kibble , he does well on it and his coat is brilliant too
Re: Puppy food Thanks Kate - the vet thinks its a reaction to her jabs possibly but I now know the diet she came home with isn't perfect. Silly isn't it - but we trusted the breeder when it came to the kibble - oh well I popped into the local pet sanctuary charity shop today & they said they could make use of it so told hubby to think of it as a charity donation rather than a waste of money! She is loving her chicken & rice. My parents visited today & bought her a chew toy & a brush - they love her to bits already. My mum got her retrieving too! Am looking at kibble with rice - what brand do you use kate? I will compare to the others. x
Re: Puppy food Thanks for the help we have her on a new puppy kibble now & her tum is much better - however she is on 4 meals a day carrying on from what the breeder was doing - is this about right for a 10 week old pup?
Re: Puppy food It might depend on the brand - nutrition for volume no doubt varies brand to brand. Charlie came to me from the breeder having 3 meals a day, and that's what it says on the back of the packet for his food until 6 months. I think the main point is that puppies need (relative to their size) quite a lot of food, and it's better for the tums to give that large amount in small meals. So probably more small meals are good - frequent small amounts are unlikely to harm anyway, I would have thought. Is there any info on the packet? I did a google search on the brand and type I use and got more info about how much and how often to feed from the manufacturer's website.
Re: Puppy food I've always used the packet as a guideline for feeding. Dexter was 5 months when he came ( there was confusion about his age though.....long story,we were of the understanding he was 4 months !) and he was on 3 meals a day.....I think the packet directed me to put him onto 2 when he was 6 months.....but with the confusion of his DOB,his upset tummy and a lot going on in house with visitors....he was 7 months when he went down to 2 meals.....no ill effects!
