I have a chocolate lab puppy we've had almost 6 weeks. He's almost 13 weeks old. In the last week he's had a bout with diarrhea. We got a lot going on so I am not sure what is causing it. We just bought a new bag of dog food. Still the same kind and brand (Blue Buffalo puppy) but this bag seems oilier or something. This is only the 2nd bag we've bought since we got him. But on another side, I can't keep him out of the cat's food. I know that will give them diarrhea. We put up a gate to the room where the cats food is but sometimes I think my son is forgetting to put gate back up when he goes in there to feed cat and puppy is getting in there and eating it. Then we are remodeling and our bathroom is gutted. Puppy keeps getting in bathroom eating or chewing on stuff by the walls. We have swept and kept it clean but the walls used to be plaster and we have taken all that down but there is those slats that still have that stuff between them that keeps falling off and I think there was something between the one wall that was close to floor that he got in there and ate. We are keeping door shut to bathroom now because he keeps getting in there and chewing on stuff, but again, my son forgets and leaves door open. Did I mention puppy also eats/chews on an shoes or anything he can get to? He got out of his pin one day while we were all at work and school and he chewed up hubby's boots that were in our shoe room. I don't even know where to start when it comes to what his diarrhea might be because of. Any advice or ideas I greatly appreciate.
Cat food is so good to them but causes them such pain. We moved our cat food up on a table, easier than getting some to remember the gate or door. Lol. And we put a short chain on the door to the laundry room where we keep the litter box, yes they love to eat kitty turds too. Chain allows the door to open only a few inches or cat size. How old is your son? Maybe a round of puppy poop cleaning will help him remember the door? Good luck with the shoes. We always had a chew toy and offered as soon as he went for a shoe. Nothing you can do if you have a Houdini but make sure shoes are put away until pup learns. Good luck!
Walk through gates are excellent. You can close off certain rooms but still have easy entry for people. Just try to keep things out of his way.
I saw a stair gate with a cat flap built in advertised somewhere. My puppy eats everything too sticks stones mud and cat poop in the garden.
Just an update.. we switched Cooper to Earthborn Hollistic Puppy Vantage on January 23rd. He kept diarrhea for about 4 days and then bam one day.. solid stool again. We've not had ANY issues since then and we have bought 2 more bags of food since then. But, I did do my research before I switched him to a different food. Earthborn Hollistic has been in business many years and NEVER had a recall. That made me feel good. Cooper seems to like the food also.
