    Hi guys... another question (sorry!)

We plan on crating Bob and taking him out in the night to pee/poop in the garden if he whines. We are going to hook him up to our baby monitor. Now my question is.. would we need puppy pads in the house still? During the day he will go out to relieve himself so we don't want to really encourage him to use a pad in the house if you see what I mean? But I'm wondering about night time?

    Any help appreciated!

You will get mixed views on this but if you don't want him to go inside and provide plenty of opportunities to go outside you don't need them. I have had 5 dogs and never used them. I just got up in the night and slowly phased that out. Enjoy your new bundle when he arrives. Emma and Meg :)

Never used them. First couple of nights Mira woke us AFTER she had done the business ::) but once we gauged roughly how long she could last, we set the alarm and took her out in the middle of the night before she asked. Wasn't long before she could last until morning or would let us know if she needed and we never had any more night accidents :)

& to completely ignore for there intended purpose.

Every one I put down Bouncer has destroyed within mins. I dont even put newspaper down now, but all my downstairs floors are either wood or tile so easy to clean up when he has a little accident.

I used puppy pads for the first 2 weeks in her crate. She only wet a few times, but used the pads every time. We phased them out after the first 2 weeks when we gauged how long she could go.

If your pup is crated at night, there is no use for puppy pads. It's not right to have a pup pee and poo in a crate. Unless the crate is huge, the size of a pen. In which case, more practical to use a pen so the crate can still be used to assist in a toilet training routine (you can't use it for that if they are peeing and pooing in it).

We are partitioning off a small area of a large crate for Bob to sleep in so I'm hoping he won't want to soil in there. Just gonna have to get up if I hear him whining and take him outside! X
