Our puppy is now 20 weeks old and from the beginning she has rarely peed while out on walks. She will only pee in the garden (with still the occasional mistake in the house). It doesn’t seem to matter whether she is on a lead or not. Otherwise, she’s a very good puppy, very confident, hardly afraid of anything and well socialised.

Any ideas what could be causing this? It’s not the worse problem to have, but she just had a pee inside the house after coming back from a walk!

Hi John, Welcome to the forum!
It's frustrating, but it's not anything wrong with her. Some dogs just have their preferred places to pee!
When you get back from a walk i'd recommend waiting in the garden with her until she has relieved herself before going back indoors together. It's a bit of a drag, but it won't last forever.
Let us know how you get along!

Our puppy does this. We’ve come in the front door and he’s wet himself before we can get the back door open. It’s very frustrating. I’m wondering if he’ll start weeing outside when he begins wanting to mark his territory? We’ve been out with him for hours and hours and he won’t go until he gets home!

Ours was the same for quite a while, he’s now 16 weeks and now wees (and occasionally poos) on walks but ONLY on grass... I read when we first got him that they associate the texture of the surface they normally go on as a preferred surface (so if you use puppy pads On a tiled floor they might have accidents on a rug on a wooden floor because it’s familiar) .. we are lucky enough to have a big garden and would always take him out to the garden when house training. It probably took him a couple of weeks of short walks before he would go outside of the garden and if we take him somewhere with no grass then he won’t go at all. If he needs to go and the nearest place is someone’s front lawn and that’s the only place he’ll go ( he’ll manically pull until he’s a foot into the grass then go)
We live near plenty of fields so he doesn’t have too far to wait but it took us ages to work out why he would hold on and then go the second we got home, especially when we first took him out down the road and back.
Whilst they are so young everything is so unfamiliar and it just takes a little time and confidence to feel comfortable out and about
