I have started taking 6 month old Molly to a puppy romp. Enclosed field, we let them off the lead (about 8 pups) and leave them to it, any problems are sorted out by the trainer. We practise our recall 2 or 3 times during the hour. Touch confusing as we have more than 1 Molly in the class

I cannot say that Molly dislikes the other dogs. She plays with them a bit, but she is soon worming her way around the humans. She is quite submissive with the other dogs.

Does she prefer the humans simply because she's a Lab? Or is it the fact that we all have pockets full of high value treats?

I don't think she is actually scared of the other dogs, and she has entered an already established group which is difficult even for humans.

    I would welcome your comments.

My plan is to keep taking her to the Puppy Romp (you WILL enjoy it) unless it is not in her best interests.

I think I can safely say that its the treats Tina ;D ;D

Sam was just the same as a youngster , liking all other dogs but seeming to prefer human company, just in case a pocket held something tasty ;)

Its good that recall is practised during the play , as too often, a pup will become too engrossed and become " deaf " :) I found with Sam that he did become a little too " wild " for my liking and so once well socialised , I stopped visiting the play field . We now tend to go on walks where we will encounter other dogs , but not in such great numbers . Millie especially gets worried by too many dogs at once so a more gentle aproach with her is better , but by all means , if Molly is enjoying herself , keep going but keep on practising that recall , even slipping her lead on for a moment and then letting her off again so that she doesnt necessarily associate recall and lead as the end of fun :)
