We recently started letting Lola off lead and she has been doing brilliant but when she was bringing her ball back to me the other day my other half said her back left leg looks a little wonky when she runs. Is there such a thing as a 'puppy run' cause she walks fine. When she 'puppy sits' she leans on her left side if this makes a difference? She's 17 weeks too (god that's gone fast!)
Re: Puppy run? Its hard to say without actually seeing it, pups can be a bit unco-ordinated at times, legs all over the place . Having said this , if you do have doubts , it would be best to pop her to the Vets to ask their opinion , let us know please x
Re: Puppy run? You might get a few different views and opinions on this. Yes, puppies do sometimes have puppy gaits, and when very small can look a little unco-ordinated. By 5.5 months though, i don't think there shouldn't be anything too unusual. I've always taken videos of my boy and have bored several vets to tears making them watch them and tell me what they thought. (Not for fun, there was something wrong with my dog, and I was trying to find out what, so comparing videos of him before injury). There was a thread a while ago with a few videos of dogs with and without problems: http://www.thelabradorforum.com/index.php?topic=3890.msg46127#msg46127 Lots of Labradors have a "sloppy sit". Sometimes this is to ease pain in hips (so says my orthopedic vet) and sometimes it's nothing. My boy has always done it, and his hips are near perfect. He doesn't do it when he is very alert, waiting for his ball. He does it just about at all other times though. If you think something is amiss, it's good to get a vet to take a look - it might be absolutely nothing, but if there is something wrong the sooner it's found the better. My tip would be to go to an orthopedic specialist or physiotherapist, if you can, someone who will spend a good amount of time watching your dog walk and run. Not a vet with 10 minute appointment times who will just examine your dog.
Re: Puppy run? Sounds like a trip to the vets on the cards then and plenty of time videoing her! As soon as he said "hip" I felt a huge knot in my stomach so I am hoping and praying she's just uncoordinated! She doesn't show any signs of discomfort and never misses play time! Both mum and dad have low hip and elbow scores and everything she needs day to day is all on one level. Fingers crossed
Re: Puppy run? Hopefully she's just going through a phase as I read a lot of stuff when I was worrying about Penny's gait. Some dogs have a funny run when young but can grow out of it. But if you are concerned it's best to speak to the vet. Hope it's all ok!
