    Hi All,
I hope you don't think I'm absolutely mad but I was wondering if anyone used a sling or carrier to socialise their puppies before they had finished their vaccinations?
A girl at work used one of these with her cocker pup and said it was great as he was really heavy for her after 10 mins of carrying so god knows how heavy a lab pup would be after 10 mins!!
I am hoping to take puppy out a few times a day to various places, school run, shops etc so think it will be worth the money.
I was looking at something like this:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/L-Pet-Dog...67673975&tpos=top&ttype=price&talgo=undefined

My only concern would if it could cause the pup any discomfort ??
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I didn't personally but of my vet friends recently got a GSP and she used her old baby sling to take him out and about before his vaccinations.

I think it's a brilliant idea and plan to do this when I get my next puppy (note: I said when not if ;) ) it means you don't miss out on that valuable socialising you can't do because your pup is too heavy for you or you can't carry him for long periods.

I think thats a very good plan and much better to socialise your puppy by using one of these than not taking it out at all :)
It looks nice and soft, so I dont think it will cause discomfort , as long as its not used for long periods of time , yes go for it , have fun :)

My breeder recommended a rucksack then you have the advantage of sloppy kisses on your ears!

I did, and It was great. Got her used to traffic sounds and general city noises. I took me twice as long to get anywhere because every one wanted to stoke her though lol :D

Absolutely great idea. I wish I'd known about them when Molly was that young. I tried to carry her but she was just too heavy.

What are you waiting for. Go for it

It is a very good idea to use something like this - I think though, you should check the allowable pet weight given for the bag. I searched, and searched, and could not find one (I'm almost sure that I looked at the same one you have posted) that said it was ok for a pet heavier than 6kgs. Charlie came to me at 8 weeks weighing 6.5kgs and got heavier very rapidly. Because of this, I tried to use a rugged outdoor bag (a triangular rucksack), but it didn't work very well, Charlie was a real wriggle puss! It ended up being easier to carry him.

Ah, puppy days. So lovely. :) :) :)

I think that's why my friend used an old baby sling, plus she had one lying around from when her kids were young. I imagine you could carry a heavier weight in a baby one rather than a designated 'pet' one as the dog slings are probably aimed more at 'handbag dogs' which generally don't weigh much more than 4-5kgs!

Good idea I will check out the weight restrictions on them.
I did think about a baby sling, might be a better idea?

You could probably find one on eBay fairly cheaply.

This sling looks like it may be just the thing!

It says it's for up to 15 kilos.

(They have them for £10 on ebay)

Hey, they look great - if you can get second hand ones on ebay, they would be just the thing.

They said they had red, black or stone but never got the option to chose.?!
I'm hoping for red but not too fussed if I get another colour.
