We have a 16 week old lab called Molly. As per all the advice, we are taking her out to a stoney area in our garden regularly and second-guessing when she might need to the toilet. She is now trained to only wee/poo on the stones and that's fantastic. Most days there are no accidents atall.

However, she never makes any sound or signal that she needs and, if we weren't taking her out, I suspect there could be lots of accidents.

When can we expect her to start 'telling us' that she needs out? Is there any way that we can encourage her to do this?

Hello and welcome! Sounds to me you are doing all the right things.... She is obviously following your cue, so I wouldn't worry too much. You can try lengthening the time between toilet visits a bit - and if it's possible to leave the door to the garden open, you may find she starts to take herself out when she needs to go. :)

Welcome to the forum Claire and Molly :)

Riley doesn't make any noise unless he's absolutely desperate or is unwell for some reason. Mostly he heads as close to the door as he can get and gives me a good hard stare! Half the time he's just bored and wants me to go outside and play but you learn to tell the difference and you'll get used to how often they need to go.

Sounds like all is going well so far though :)

Hi, Wish Otis was as good, and he is four months ! Im wondering why he hasn't done a wee or poo, when I walk him , well only once. Is it because I need to take him to a grassy area, at the moment its just pavements. x

Hi Claire! Are you in Dundee? I live near Cupar.
    Welcome to you and Molly.
Lilly is the same as Riley. Just sits at the back door and uses telepathy. Bladder like a camel though.
She will do anything possible NOT to go on a pavement path or road! Seeks out some longer grass and does a few circles before a poop. Still likes long grass for a pee but not quite so fussy.
