HiI am getting my new puppy, Otis, next Monday. I have bought a Kong for him, as have read so many good things about them. Ive been wondering though what I can put in it for him, Ive heard peanut butter is good, but is that okay for an eight week old ? What types of food can I give him as treats? Thanks Maggie
Re: Puppy Treats H,Maggie,i can only give you advice from someone having their first lab in the desert,I fill Dex 's kong and other toys with ice cubes....might sound a bit flakey but he seems to like it and be occupied by them.he loves stones and he drives me mad digging up the garden looking for stones but the ice cubes seem to satisfy the clack and crunch on teeth....who knows?maybe I have a dopey pooch x
Re: Puppy Treats Our favorite is something based around mashed banana. In fact you can just squish a bit of banana in without mashing first. Add a bit of peanut butter, bit of honey. Could mash up banana/honey/peanut butter with some natural yougurt into an "ice-cream" - all of these are good - I usually freeze mine to last longer. Some people use wet dog food, bit of fruit or veg,....so many options. In fact if you put "kong" in the search box at the top, I'm sure you will find lots of other ideas as I am sure we have talked aboutthis before. jac
Re: Puppy Treats i think jasper must be a bit lazy, he as not took to the kong he would much prefer to lick my hand rather than work with the kong
Re: Puppy Treats Jess loves a bit of Shippam's chicken paste in her puppy kong. As soon as she hears the lid come off the paste jar, she heads into her crate!
Re: Puppy Treats You can make liver treats everso easily , see the recipe section , you can use tuna if you cant face raw liver
Re: Puppy Treats We only brought Penny home a week ago (she was 9 weeks yesterday), and I have encountered a similar issue. We also bought a Kong but are yet to take it out of the packaging as we thought she would be too young for peanut butter and didn't really know what else to use. Until now as treats we have just taken a small portion of her daily amount of dried food and used that as positive reinforcement for training etc. I am by no means sure if what we do is correct, we just thought after so many changes in her life it might be more consistent for the pup to keep their diet fairly steady for a little bit.
