First off I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for the advice, stories and intellect! Makes me feel not so alone in these puppy stages!

But the reason I am writing is, we just went to my in-laws for the first time ( her first time away from home.) The drive was only 2 hours and she slept in her back seat hammock for the most part. When we arrived she pottied from excitement of meeting new people ( I’m fine with that she’s a puppy) BUT they have a big backyard and she ran and ran and ran and sniffed and dug and then ran some more. Thinking she was wore out we came back in but boy was I wrong… 2 hours later still going like she sniffed the dog equivalent of catnip.

Is this normal when going to a new place and smelling new smells? If not what should we do?

    Thanks for all the help!

It sounds like she was overstimulated. It is a good training opportunity for you to practice calm behaviours in new environments.
Puppies don't always regulate themselves well so it is up to you to step in.
