So Rosie is doing really well with her house training. Pretty much cracked it now! Hurrah. Happened really quickly after got rid of puppy pads.... But, the spot in the corner of the garden smells like a urinal....so it's great she goes there but I wondered, other than rinsing it with water, what can I use to disenfect it/get rid of the smell WITHOUT it putting her off using that designated area again?? Cheers, I will talk about something other than poo and wee at some point honestly! Thanks for any help
Re: Quick question.... Hah - got a similar problem. I have only just been successful at getting him to go in his new gravel garden area (lawn saving strategy), by upping the rewards to one sea biscuit per peep, 2 for a poop. So DARE NOT wash the gravel yet. Along with me carefully picking up and hoarding his golddust poops (or so he thinks) I'm now carefully taking stock of patches of gravel that his furriness has honoured by weeing on them, returning to these patches saying "peep peep" in a cheerful voice and waving sea biscuits. Totally mad. God, hope the neighbours can't see.... Of course, it's all going to have to be washed at some point, but I reckon it's only in this hot weather it's going to be a problem, normally the rain would see to it...hope so, anyway.
Re: Quick question.... Try a bit of garden lime or dolomite sprinkled around. You can get it from a hardware shop or garden centre. You can use it pretty liberally as it's harmless (basically ground limestone). Or you could turn that area into a little garden bed dug over with compost (to encourage the good bacteria that break down stinky stuff). She can still wee on it. Or a little gravelled doggy toilet area like JulieT has
Re: Quick question.... I think you'll find thar with time Rosie will stop weeing in the garden and will prefer to wait until she goes outside for a walk. In my experience, after a while they don't really like soiling their own territory. Assuming they get enough walks, of course!
Re: Quick question.... Duh! Thanks Karen. Been wondering why he won't poop, and won't poop, in the garden and then we get to the beach/park and poop, there we are, right away. Don't have the same problem with peep though - yet. Plenty of it in my garden, killing my lawn and even some of my ornamental ferns! I think it's toxic to all plant life....
Re: Quick question.... So i was told that boy dogs take longer to pee elsewhere as they don't want to 'mark' and leave traceable scent when they're little. Sadly riley continues to pee at home although its usually up a tree or fence, most poos are out on walks though
Re: Quick question.... Interesting. Charlie is super fussy where he wees outside the garden... it's like he has to tuck himself away in long grass or foliage... unless he is on a wet beach, in which case he just "pees and walks" - doesn't even slow down, just lets it all flow.... (antibacterial wipes required later...) Wonder if that's related to the no marking thing. Might be. So interesting understanding more about dogs! Another poo and wee conversation though...
