Dear All, My family have now had Luffy as part of the family for 6 months now. During this time I've noticed he (ritualistically in some cases) exhibits some quirky behaviors some of which that I thought I'd share with you guys! 1. Eager to play: Every time I see him, after I've being away for, say, a period of and hour or so, he gets really really excited (in a physical sense :S ) he scoots off to get a toy ,upon which, when he does, he tries his very best to stuff it into my mouth! 2. Acrobatics: Every once in a while, when I happen to be sitting down on the floor, he will roll head over bum into my lap and lays there sprawled motionless until I subject him to a belly rub. 3. The morning greet: When greeting him first thing in the morning he will take to standing on his haunches and offer both his paws up to take. I'm not sure what to make off this. On taking his paws he will try and prise one free and place his paw over my hand. When he does this he looks away. I'm left rather baffled by this gesture of his. 4. Touch typing: Whenever I am working away on my laptop on the sofa he will randomly take to jumping and sitting himself next to me and start pawing away at the key pad as if to type. Usually this warrants laughter from me however there have been cases where he has deleted important files! 5. Food kicking: I take to sitting down and having my food in front of the telly in the front room from time-to-time. This requires me to sit at the table and on the floor. Luffy finds this a most opportune time for grabbing a few bites - he does this by snuggling up next to me and sporting his best puppy dog eye's. I do not give into his charade and do my my very best to ignore him. He then takes to physical measures: he intermittently kicks or paws me and when I response he guiltily looks away - this usually get me to throw a tiny morsel or two his way... Do any of your little ones have quirky mannerisms? I'm sure they do! If so please do share!
To me , Luffy sounds like a typical clown like Labrador, one who makes you laugh, brings you joy and enriches your lives My last Lab Tess was much the same , greeting us as though we had been away for months and not just to the supermarket ! Sam is far more solemn , but he does have his moment which are even more amusing , given his usual serious demeanour I love that they can show such joy , Sams favourite place is the beach, where, upon arrival, he will tear down to the sea and just jump around like a lunatic , then stop suddenly as if he is embarrassed by his own behaviour
Juno can not greet unless she has something in her mouth, slipper, shoe, toy whatever was easy to get hold of. She does try to push toys into my mouth s well when we're playing on the floor together after dinner, or come to think on it, whenever I'm bending over doing something . Also whenever I close the cover on my tablet she jumps up and looks at me as if to say "OK, what we doing next?" as she knows that were usually going to do something good together. Have to say I've never sat on the floor to eat in front of Juno, that is too much temptation for any dog let alone a Labrador and Juno very rarely gets titbits from our plates.
Luffy sounds pretty typical to me. Not trying to be mean but you sound like you are falling for bad manners that won't be appreciated in a big full grown dog. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 are things I would not allow, cute as they seem. For the jumping in #3, I do allow it but only when I ask for a HUG. Otherwise it's FEET (on the floor) till asked. #1 You're kidding. He tries to stuff it in your mouth? YUCK. He must be doing the jumping at the same time? #2 OK, this one I like. I will take all I can get of that behaviour.
Willow used to do a roly-poly into my lap quite regularly when I was sat on the floor. She did it again the other day for the first time in ages. Made me laugh so much She also "smiles" at us when we come home, and to people she really likes when she sees them in the street. She wrinkles her nose and shows her teeth. It looks quite ferocious until you know it's her way of saying "you're my favourite!". Her mum does the same thing. Shadow has a habit of throwing himself on his back for tummy rubs without any consideration of where he'll land. We have to be on high alert all the time and are always catching him when he'd end up falling off the sofa, hitting his head on something etc. He's ridiculous. Shadow also doesn't like being laughed at when he trumps. He sulks and goes to his bed. You can laugh at him any other time and he thinks it's all good fun, but if you do it after a bottom burp.... that's not cool, apparently. When I'm preparing food, they have to sit outside of the threshold of the kitchen. The better the thing I'm making, the farther away Willow sits - to the point where I can't even see her. Shadow has trouble containing himself and often tries to sneak into the kitchen. If I turn to look at him, he'll bounce backwards with a goofy grin on his face until he's in the hallway again, then sits but can't keep his paws still.
Ahh, I love this post. Tatti has so many cute little mannerisms I don't know where to start. I think because we've never really shouted at her (just tried to substitute behaviours or distract her) if we ever do say NO! She absolutely loves it. I think she thinks we're playing- she sits nicely with her head tilted and her tail wagging across the floor just waiting to be told what to do. It makes it impossible to be angry at her When my husband or I are cooking in the kitchen she likes to 'supervise' and every now and again she will just nudge your leg With her nose as if to remind you she's still there in case you want to let her in on the action. We don't but sometimes it's tempting When she sleeps she always ends up on her back, twisted round with her legs in the air. It's absolutely adorable They really are masters of getting what they want aren't they? Love them
