I took Hamilton out to the back yard to go potty this afternoon on his leash and saw him happily munching on snow like he always does, until I looked closer and realized he was happily munching on rat poison in the snow!!! I have no idea

I accidentally hit post before I could finish. I called the vet and had been instructed to give him 1 tsp of peroxide and sure enough he threw it all up in 5 minutes. I took him to the vet and they said he would be just fine, and gave him some vitamin k tablets. What a scare :( he is just sleepy now from all the excitement.

Omg I know :'( I feel terrible for the little guy! We had disposed all of the rat poison in the house before we even brought him home and we had forgotten there was some in the shed. Some other animal must have drug it out of there somehow because there was an empty box nearby and the stuff was scattered by the door in the snow. Ughhhh I just feel terrible!

You acted quickly though and got the right treatment.
I guess the vet has said to keep an eye on him.
Thankful that you saw him and realised what he was doing.
So though it was a shock, you did well to act really promptly to get him treated :)

So lucky that you saw him! I'm so paranoid about rat poison. Even if it's in a secure baiting area the rats can very easily move it to places it shouldn't be. Scary stuff!

I know! I have searched the entire house, shed and garage again. He's pretty much slept all afternoon but I think he might be coming back to his normal self as he perked right up when I opened the fridge ::)

Today he seems to be just fine! Hopefully everything was removed from his tummy. He is even eating his Vitamin K pills! I'm surprised we don't have to hide them in food or anything :)

Phew! Glad to hear it! :)

After my previous dog's suspicion of anything remotely medical and the lengths we would go to give him pills, it has been a happy surprise to have a Lab that will eagerly eat any kind of pill we give him even without hiding it in cheese or wieners. ::)
