Can Jake (16wks) eat raw eggs? I'm sure the answer is yes, but before I tell my husband to go ahead, thought I'd check. He's had cooked egg before.
Yes, although I wouldn't feed it too often because they're quite calorie-dense. I give my two a raw egg (whole, in its shell) twice a week. They love cracking them open and eating the whole lot, shell and all. Yummers.
Shell and all? Hubby was just going to crack on onto his food for a treat at one meal. Ok, I'll tell him.
Yum, yum I give Hattie & Charlie whole eggs shells too, they have great fun rolling them around eventually cracking them open, Charlie doesn't eat the shell, Hattie does and happily eats Charlies too I only give them occassionally though
Gosh, that's what dogs are for, to clean up the egg you drop by mistake. I fed them when we were feeding raw, a couple a week, shell and all. Now just when I get sloppy or the carton is empty except for that one last egg. You might want to check what marketing regulations affect your area though. Some places wash them then coat them with mineral oil. A bit of that, only a wee bit, shouldn't hurt either but too much isn't good. That's only if you feed the shells of course. Yeah, how much is too much? Don't know.
Pongo's breeder fed all her pups a raw egg every day (did this contribute to Pongo's size, I wonder?) He still gets one every now and then as a treat. These days he is a bit more choosy and doesn't eat the shell. But he has a very neat technique.... he'll take the egg, carry it very gently into a corner of the garden and Very Delicately make a hole in the shell (about the size of a penny), through which he somehow gets all the white and egg out. He leaves the shell in perfect condition (until he rolls over and squishes it of course).
Mine get a raw egg twice a week....Wednesdays and Sundays with bacon We have our own chooks and ducks....Benson quite famously once ate a whole bucket of duck eggs...his wind was awful....really...awful...
Apparently that idea has been revised to say it's most likely ok as long as you, or your dog, eat the whole egg, white and yolk. It's at the Mercola website and some others. Interesting. I know one cannot go on an example of 1, but a dog died due to having too many raw eggs and thus a biotin deficiency. All things in moderation

Once a week for our pup and only the yolk though there is much conflicting reporting on the whites.
Charlie gets eggs if I drop them! Rarely, I'll give him an egg just for fun. He puts it down and smashes it with his paw - nothing delicate about Charlie! He's not keen on the shell.
My husband gave Jake a raw egg today (while I was out - I missed the fun) He carried it around in his mouth like a ball for a while, then dropped it and it cracked, then he trod on it! Then ate it and spent ages licking the grass where it had been. Sounds like a success as an occasional treat.
After reading this I gave Bailey an egg today - best half an hours entertainment of the day! After licking the outer shell to death he sat looking at it in confusion so we made a small crack in the shell....the tongue then went into overdrive and he was making the hole bigger. When it was empty he took the shell for a trip round the garden before dropping it and jumping on it, smashing it to pieces - he seemed to enjoy the shell too! Something for an occasional outside treat I think! Thank you for the tip
