Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and our puppy is arriving on the 25th Nov so I am trying to get prepared. I have a crate but I am searching for a puppy pen..does anyone have any recommendations??? I live in Germany so my options are limited here but any information would be appreciated. I also wanted to ask for those of you who have already got your pup and work ...how do you manage leaving the pup on it's own?? My plan is to attach the crate to the puppy pen and leave a few stuffed Kong's...i work part time will this work? Thanks Elaine
Hi Elaine, Have you looked online for purchasing a puppy pen? I bought my puppy pen and lots of things for my puppy online (NZ websites as I'm from NZ, I find it easier). Welcome to the forum
Yeah I had a look but they are pricey so I was hoping for recommendations before I spend anything. Amazon seems to be my best bet.
I am in the UK and use Zooplus a lot, they are a German company and deliver to UK and Germany and all over by the looks of their website. I take Maisy to work with me so cannot comment on leaving your pup on it's own, I only leave Maisy for a few hours in her cage with a stuffed frozen Kong if I go to the Doctors/Dentist/Funeral etc. Check out http://www.zooplus.co.uk/
I used an EllieBo pen, the 1m high model. I was very happy with it indeed. To start off with, pop her in with a chew or kong while you pop out of the room. You have to gauge your puppy's temperament. Some will be very clingy and you will be starting off simply taking a step backwards. Others, you'll be able to go out of the room for a few seconds immediately. You don't want to leave it long enough for your puppy to get distressed; you're trying to build up the time she's happy. So, if she does get distressed wen you leave, you need to make it easier for her, by making it shorter or you going less far away. Distracting her with a chew will help at first. She'll know you're not there, but she likely won't be bothered because she's busy with her tasty treat. Gradually build up the time, making sure you don't always make it longer (so, 10s, 30s, 5s, 1min etc) so she never knows how long you'll be gone. Like I said, it really depends a lot on your puppy as to how quickly you can do this.
Yes, I have Ellie-bo too - I also have one outside the door so that I can have the door open and the pup doesn’t have unsupervised access to the garden.
