Maxx had (yes past tense) three plush toy gorillas and he loved them....to death literally. We have tried suturing them but he immediately rips them out and starts eating the stuffing. He saw one on the back deck just now and cried and cried for it...it's breaking my heart! I saw that Kong make plush toys - are they indestructible? If not any recommendations for a substitute as I cannot look into the brown, despairing, guilt-inducing puppy eyes much longer. Do they learn this look from their mother?
Hi, we have bought lots of Kong toys for Luna who is 6 months old and have found they last longer but are not destructible, but they do last longer! I have given her an old thick sock with a tennis ball inside which she loves and alsdo she loves her Kong's filled with frozen treats
Indestructible, no. But they are certainly very robust. They have a liner which is made from some very tough material. The ears, horns, tails and the like all go relatively quickly but the main body of the toy hangs around rather longer than most toys. I'm glad Luna isn't a toy destroyer - Willow and Shadow were awful! But, still, their first Tupper lasted several months before it eventually met its end.
Hi @Maxx's Mum. Yes, Kong plush toys last nicely. Gaston has 3 Kong plush toys (the fox (scrunch knots), puppy dog and raccoon (scrunch knots too) and they are used much but still fine. Not a soft toy, but the Kong wobbler is great too, very entertaining, Gaston loves it.
At Christmas we went to the pet store and discussed the most indestructible toys they had. We were recommended a Kong toy that had a rope inside - assured if he tried to destroy it, it would take ages. We picked a dragon and wrapped it up under the tree for Christmas morning. A very happy Stanley loved his dragon. And in its defence it did last longer than usual - it lasted a whole 20 minutes. So now he gets toys from the £1 shop which he destroys then they get chucked
Ikea golden retriever toy/cuddle. They have them in small and large. Finn loves them both! And not expensive!
Labradors all have the sad eye gene. I find the khong wubba fluffy animals last well. We have a bunny and a bear which have lasted really well. The bunny was Moo s so unbelievably it's about 10 or twelve and the bears about 6. They've got bits missing but I don't let them alone with them. We also have a tiny khong squeeky khong crocodile which Rory had when he was tiny. It still squeaks but is missing a leg. I also have some outward hound toys like the salamander and toad and they are really old too but still squeaks and are fairly intact. They are good too. The thing is they will destroy them even so we have sacrificial toys which are cheap and can be shredded and other more expensive which are played with then put away. You just have to adjust how you think about toys. I don't let friends buy them toys as they will destroy then, they don't get what a lab can do given a few minutes.they get less enthusiastic about it as they get older.
Quinn destroyed the Kong plush toys just as fast as any other, so I don’t buy expensive plush toys from the pet store anymore - just cheapies (we also sometimes buy Ikea ones). I bought one that has fire hose inside (I can’t think of the brand) and although deflated she hasn’t been able to destroy it (yet)!
