Hi all, Every now and then hollie after drinking water will bring a small amount back up? This isn't every time. Should I ask the vet to have a look when she is speyed or Is it a 'normal' thing. Thanks in advance
Re: reguritation Is she just drinking too fast? Kind of sounds like it could be.... Not sure what your water bowl situation is, and what her access is to it as a general rule...but if it were me, and I was noticing a problem...I would pick apart the action/reaction and see if I could determine a pattern. And to help isolate it, I would make one single change and try that for a day and see if it solves the problem. This is all very vague of course...but a scenario would be: You have a small bucket that holds the water in your kitchen, she has access to it when she is locked in the kitchen behind a gate, and if she has free run of the house, she does not routinely choose to return to the kitchen for a drink. You take her out the door for a walk, when you return, she goes straight to the bowl and drinks like a loon.....and then stops and coughs a bit back up. I would try: a smaller water bowl, and encourage her to drink small amounts more frequently, make sure she has a drink before the walk, and when she returns offer her a small bowl of water to drink dry....and then refill. If she has a small bowl already - try a small bucket. If she is very excited when she drinks....try waiting until she calms down first. those kinds of things are ways for you to focus on what her regular habit is, and how you might alter the habit. To me, it sounds like a scenario of she just tries to drink too fast. I feed kibble with a bit of canned food that is covered/drowned in water for each of her 3 meals a day....she gets a lot of liquid this way, and therefore doesn't tend to drink much else throughout the day. We have a small bucket that she has access to when she is out of her crate during the day, and a large community water bowl in our kitchen at home where she can drink if she chooses....or the toilet : but generally a smaller bowl with fresh water will be her preference. good luck!
Re: reguritation Huh. No, I don't have that. Charlie slobbers his last mouthful (about a pint) across the kitchen floor, down the hall and into the TV room, but that doesn't sound the same... Maybe she is just gulping it down too fast?

[/quote] Hahaha yeah, Maisie never swallows her last mouthful either but lets it all dribble out as she walks off from the bowl :O. I also think it may be her drinking too fast so maybe try what sunset pines suggested or mention it to the vet when she goes in next.
Re: reguritation She has a smallish water bowl that Is half full and renewed numerous times a day (she doesn't like floaters) I've always thought it's because she drinks too fast on that particular occasion, it only happens on average twice a week. I may still mention it too the vet as we will be there anyway . Thanks for the advice. P.s she also leaves a trail of water after drinking!!! We thought our boxer was a messy drinker but he has nothing on her!!
Re: reguritation My sister's cocker is awful for spreading water around the house. Mine are very tidy drinkers and don't dribble their last mouthful. Yet.* Shadow does occasionally have a loopy moment and decide to play with the full bowl, emptying it all over the floor in the process. Idiot *Another one for the memory bank, Julie
